From my understanding, highly processed foods tend to lead to people massively overeating their daily caloric needs. Lots of people live in effective fresh-food deserts, where normal grocery stores options are restricted.
There has been a marked increase in chemicals (particularly PFAS) in all manner of personal products that mimic hormonal behavior in the body.
Lots of corporate profits are dependent on both of the above factors continuing just as they have been.
Without getting into RFK Jr.‘s anti-scientific nonsense, it‘ll be interesting to see if anything will actually be done about these trends under a Trump administration. Frankly, there would need to be significant government intervention into the free market — you‘d need to take on Dollar General, Walmart, etc. and tightly regulate the manufacture and sale of all manner of endocrine-active chemicals — and probably start heavily subsidising better food options in poorer rural and urban environments.
There would need to be some gigantic cultural shift away from kids developing sedentary lifestyles early.
Honestly, I suspect what will come of an RFK Jr. health administration is excess deaths due to preventable diseases due to undue vaccine skepticism and/or policies that damage effective vaccination programs… and essentially nothing else.
M@GA only wants to hear about these terrible health indicators when it can blame them all on "lack of personal responsibility". Recall how they reacted when Michelle Obama said basically the same thing ("you don't understand REAL Americans, who want the freedom to destroy their own health if they so choose-- no liberal nanny state!")
After acknowledging the these realities, RFK will proceed NOT to address any of their deeper structural causes (because he has no intention of advocating for regulations on the behavior of companies that profit off of them, or recommending policies-- like universal healthcare and reduced social inequality-- that could improve public health overall). Then, when he very predictably fails to drive any change whatsoever, he will fall back on blaming individuals for simply being stupid and weak, ignoring the fact that other countries are have been able engineer lasting solutions to these terrible scourges.
Oh, and he will repeat dangerous nonsense about vaccines and "SSRI addiction".
And David Rubin, Republican, has a husband with which they have produced two kids. (If you do not know it David Rubin has a show and he comes out and tries to acuse Kamala Harris of lying. It's funny how EVEN THAT VERY AD MAKES HIM LOOK BAD.) But here is a report that is even worse than his shows.
