Hocker would - without much doubt - have destroyed Jakob and the WR had he run the mile instead of the 3000m in Lievin.
People apparently don´t understand how great Hocker´s and Fisher´s performances were in the 3000m.
Considering that Hocker probably is relatively better in the 1500m/ mile than in the 3000m it seems certain that he would have won the Mile easily had he run this instead of the 3000m.
Ha-ha that is a quote of a post written by me in another thread while just changing Jakob with Nuguse.
But I think that Hocker WOULD have beaten Jakob if he had been able to run in the Lievin mile in his Millrose shape (and without jetlag).
As I have calculated in another thread his 3000m at 7:23.14 indicates a mile in just under 3:44. So Hocker seems to be at a new level already at this early time in the season. And significantly faster than Jakob at this moment.
Only uncertainty: Is the Millrose track faster than Lievin´s?
You think Hocker is significantly faster than Jakob right now? His 3k is a fantastic start but the Armory is definitely faster than Lievin since they have redone the track. Also Jakob was not pushed for the latter parts of the race whereas Hocker had Fisher with him the whole time. Also you think Hocker is in sub 3:44 shape in February? I've seen some bad takes and made plenty myself but this is the worst I have seen in a solid minute.
He could have if it was his day and Jakob was simultaneously just slightly off. The two I think are basically about even at 1500. My personal belief is that Jakob has maxed out at 1500 and that Cole can run 3:26xx in the right race, which makes it a draw. Jakob will lose to Cole in a kick if he can’t pull away though.
I wouldn’t look at Hocker’s loss to Grant as any indication he somehow isn’t still the best kicker in the business at 1500. The stronger guy will have a better kick in the 5k. Grant is capable of 12:37. The best milers have routinely been outkicked in the 5k to strength runners. El G lost to Kipchoge and Shaheen in separate races, Lagat lost to Bekele, Kipyegon to Chebet, and plenty of examples I’m sure.

I think what people don’t understand is that Jakob ran 7:17 and 7:54 outdoors. Hocker slipped by on the rail while Jakob and Kerr battled it out. Jakob isn’t getting outkicked by Grant Fisher. If Jakob went to BU he could run 12:30 in the 5K, 7:20 in the 3K, and 3:43 in the mile.
"slipped by on the rail"? You make it seem like Josh and Jakob were poppin each others @$$holes while Cole had an easy run at the win. Josh and Jakob were FLAT OUT - yes battling each other - but FLAT OUT. Meanwhile Cole threw it into high gear, went for the inside lane, got blocked, had to back off, fade back, then re-engage and still beat those two.

You don´t relate to my numbers?! Are you a bit lazy?
I pointed out myself that Armory might be faster than Lievin which could close the gap fully or partly.
BUT the assumption that Hocker is a relatively better miler than 3000m runner draws in the opposite direction.
I don´t think it matters that you have a runner "breathing in you neck". Have you been a runner yourself?
Finally: I seems that not even the American patriots (I don´t know where you are based) realize how GREAT Fisher´s and Hocker´s 3000m times were. But consider this: Hocker was about 2.5 seconds away from Komen´s former 3000m WR which by many was considered the strongest in the book. Jakob was 2 seconds away from the mile WR which is by far the weakest WR now and far weaker than Komen`s 7:20.67.
Hocker´s 7:23.14 gives 1282 IAAF points if the OUTDOORS points are used. Jakob´s 3:45.14 gives around 1265 OUTDOOR points.
