Does anyone have a New Mexico predicted top ten for just their team next year? I’ve seen some talented recruits added who I’m wondering will even make their team next season
According to TFFRS- New Mexico had 41 runners on their roster. Only 5 seniors. So even if they added NOBODY- they’d still have to cut from 36 down to 17 per the pending NCAA rister limits. That’s 19 current runners being cut WITHOUT adding new talent. If you’re joining this team you better be as good as this Kenyan or you will be cut from the roster just like half the team is about to be.

They have to cut to 17?? Huh?
Yea. They have 41 on roster- 5 graduating- 7 incoming- which means 43 runners. Of those 25 will NOT be on the xc roster, will not get to practice, will not recieve perks for being on the team. They could be on the Track roster if the coach assigns them. How terrible to be an elite HS runner- you join this team and you’ll never even be on the xc roster or travel squad for track. No thanks.
What year did New Mexico get 9th at nationals with a fully in-state squad?
I ran against these guys way back in the early 2000s at NCAAs and even then they were still operating with international students. I don’t blame them either. Albuquerque wasn’t really my favorite place for a track meet.
Vause from New Mexico just won the national title for high school cross country. I ran for UNM and we got 9th at nationals with an entirely New Mexican team. UNM is just going a different direction under Darren Gauson.
You’re making the assumption UNM didn’t try to recruit him. willing to bet they tried. tack on that he Mormon it prob makes it harder to out-recruit byu in this case

I think most if not all of the 2004 team was domestic. Biwott may not have been American in 2004, but he did attend HS in the NM.
9. New Mexico 2 Matt Gonzales 30:40.9 10 Shadrack Ki Biwott 31:16.9 77 Ben Ortega 32:40.2 104 Cameron Clarke 33:00.4 137 Sean Flaherty 33:22.2 151 Steve Martinez 33:29.6 193 Nick Martinez 35:05.6 Time = 2:41:00.6 Places = 330

UNM has NOT recruited Vause. They also haven't recruited Combs or any other NM distance runner (boy or girl) this year. That's a fact.
