This was a horrible decision by the CIF-SS officials.
Ayala should have been added as an extra team to the D1 Finals. The athletes and coaches had no role in the reporting error from the school's staff, "No way to know if they would have qualified in Div I" is ridiculous. This is narrow legalism, not integrity.
This is horrible for the runners and coaches, however picking them for NXN is silly. They already stated they are going to Runninglane, which seems like a pretty good option for them (I would prefer the NXN community race if they truly believe they deserved to be there). That being said, having a 5 at 16:14 and having no low stick kills your chances of making NXN. Giving them a bid without them running state is completely undermining the teams ahead of them such as Beckman, MLK, Jesuit, and Glendora who would beat them head to head (based on clovis). A very big what if, but I think they would've been around the 2nd or 3rd team out from NXN if California manages to get 2 at larges.
2 15:33 freshman is wild though. They have a good future
RunningLane still has some good competition for teams. There will be so many Southwest teams that won’t make NXN but would make it from any other region
