40:42 in the Netherlands for 15k! The news story isn't out yet but dang! I'll try to find a link when it's posted. Just a heads up in case you didn't see that.
Go to the World Athletics home page. The post states that Kiplimo ran the first 2 km in 5:26!
almost zero traction on a world record, or rather a world best in the worlds oldest and most participated in sport. everyone has run sometime in school.
Impressive but I’m not sure what to make of him. He had 3 huge targets this year and started off nailing World XC but then big disappointments at the Olympics (way off podium) and Copenhagen (beaten convincingly by Sawe, over 58’). He did PB in the 5,000 but I wonder if he should leave the track behind.
Leave the track behind after running 12:40 at age 23? That would be a rash decision. Kiplimo had a bad showing (for him) in Paris, and he missed Budapest due to injury, but he medaled in Eugene and Tokyo. With Cheptegei moving full-time to the roads, there is now a void at the top of the 10,000 meters. Kiplimo should see if he can fill that void.
The median age of track 5,000m PR for the top 20 in the world all time is under age 24. So maybe one more year messing around on the track, but he's got a higher ceiling and can make more money on the roads, maybe an eventual marathon world record. Kiptum wasn't running sub 58 for a half.

ya, he didn't even break 58 HM in route to his 2.00 35, and couldn't even break 420 / mile at the end of the race, as his 421 mile clearly illustrates, etc.

Honestly world class runners should be able to run 422 mile pace for 15K with supershoes and pacers. In 1995 Todd Williams ran 432 pace for 15K and had no supershoes and he ran solo after the first mile I believe
