We need more strict laws against this. He's only on a 10,000 bond? This should be a multi-million dollar bond and a minimum 30 years in prison.
The victims get scarred for life from these sick people and need therapy every week for the rest of their lives. Just a small slap on the wrist is not enough for ruining the lives of children. Lock them up for a LONG time.
There has to be some former teammates or training mates that saw something right? I bet he got hired without a reference check. No way you stay in the sport and run at that level and people not see stuff. As a high school coach this stuff boils my blood. Let's just hope there isn't more victims that come forward and this be like all of the Huntington stuff that just went down.
Hard to tell, this kind of thing can be hidden if the predator is smart, though as you imply there may be little things that slip out, not necessarily super overt things but maybe a questionable comment, touches that linger past the point of appropriateness, etc.
You could be right about a lack of a background check though. A charter school near me had a coach go to prison for raping one student-athlete and engaging in a faux-“consensual” relationship with another. It turned out that the background check company the school used was a bargain-bin company that had the candidate pay for their own check, which is weird enough, but also failed to turn up that the guy had been convicted of the same sort of thing in the past. Talk about failing the kids at every level.
I’m grateful though that it seems like victims are more empowered than ever to speak up, even years later. One victim in the above case went to the police maybe four years after she graduated and the other came forward after reading about the arrest for the other criminal me in the paper.

Argh. This highly unfortunate mistype should say “criminal case.”
Matt Gaetz and now Matt Elliot. Is there something in the name?
The story I told above involved a coach not named Matthew, but with the name of one of the other three gospel writers. Maybe there is something to that?

He hasn't been charged with anything yet, Einstein. This is part of the process
Seems pretty incriminating if they were able to arrest him so quickly after the girl turned him in. Also the schools response seems suspect. Were they aware of other things they swept under the rug?
This part is unbelievable. This isn’t some small little Christian charter school, it’s one of the most exclusive, expensive elite private schools in a city with a lot of banking money.
“The school also confirmed that it was reported to them in 2023 that the suspect was having an inappropriate relationship with a different student,” the affidavit said.
How in the world did they allow him to come back this year after knowing what they did in 2023?!
Nope, no religious bigotry on LetsRun. None whatsoever. To many of the posters here, a cross is worse than a swastika.
A cross is definitely not worse than the Nazi swastika. However, feel free to add up the casualties resulting from the crusades, inquisition, The Troubles in NI, etc. And yes, this also applies to other religions, but I'm only addressing your reference to the cross.
