He got smoked at the OT, in a race won in 13:09, and finished with a 2:36. In the Olympics, it would probably have to be as slow as 13:40, for him to have a chance.
Correct. You need to be a legit distance runner to medal in the 5k at Olympics/Worlds. Guys like Hocker and Kerr are different from Ingebrigtsen and Katir even though all four are elite 1500m athletes.
Agreed. If you just placed a fresh Hocker in the Paris 5k final, he probably manages to stay with the pack until the last 2 laps and Gebriwhet's move drops him, finishes maybe around Graham Blanks so 9th. Same goes for Nuguse

He would finish last
Doubtful. He ran 12:58 earlier in the season (May 17), which is competitive when compared to the slower runners in the final. And the race was run in a favorable way (not fast up front). He'd have no way to win but I can't see him losing that badly.

Makes me suspicious when 1500m guys suddenly think they can win 5000m Olympic gold.
Happend to Aouita in 84, and of course he was right, with his 'special methods'.
Hope Hocker isn't doing any 'special methods'.
I agree with a lot of what you’ve said over the years, but you Brits can’t contain your envy and jealousy when an American does well. It drives you up the wall, much the same as Jakob has sent Armstronglivs to the rubber-room.
You might be right there, but I think any rank outsider winning a gold should be subjected to some scrutiny.
And c'mon, Americans here are constantly claiming that 'the Brits are all dirty'. Especially, of course, the golden Brits of the 80's, stealing medals from Steve 'two different cancers and a pulmonary embolism by 40' squeeky clean Scott.

Competitive? He almost placed last in that race. I don't see him being a factor in Paris. Sure, maybe not last, but close to it. Maybe 3rd to last.

I never accused Coe and Ovett, you’re just erecting a straw-man because you were called out on your obvious jealousy. Bigmouth Kerr had his arse kicked in Paris and will NEVER be an Olympic champion.

very few letsrun partons post.
there is a great over representation of poster incels, narcs, attentionwhores, trolls, among the good ones. thene there are bots, which may be the majority in social media depending on the topic, transgender nonsense is a goofy one, to make it appear there is any kind of rationality or support in the general population, as opposed to just gasliighting.
at the end of the day, you can't conclude much from the boards here, except the upvote and down votes appear legit on non political topics, and the wisdom of the polls is exceptional. you might win at vegas just using letsrun poll stats from predicted times.
skip to 9:20 ish where he states that he wrote down that he wanted to win the 1500/5k double at the Paris Olympics.
Obviously failed to qualify for the 5k but you gotta love that he sets these lofty goals that absolutely no one believes he can do. This is the mindset of a gold medalist. The US is lucky to have a gifted and driven athlete like Cole Hocker!
I mean that's fair enough. It's also a lot easier to say it when you have the 1500m gold in your back pocket for the rest of time and the Olympic record too for at least the next 4 years. He's also doing an on-stage interview in his home state and he's 23 years old - you can't forgive him for maybe getting marginally carried away in the moment. I'm not entirely certain that was a real goal/ambition/want from Paris - but the soundbite was good and it gets him a lot of the "that's the mindset...." plus points with the running community as a whole.
As for his chances in Paris of actually doing it? I mean come on now.
But the good news is come LA in 4 years time he will be still only 27 and in his absolute prime to try and do such a double. So we will see then won't we.

Plus points for that’s the mindset doping?
You do know this guys performance is just as strange as Ruth’s 2:09 right?
If a guy can give in to temptation in the moment to falsely sell and exaggerate his own product for the soundbites and money he is definitely more likely to also give in to temptation in another moment to falsely enhance himself with drugs to also exaggerate his own performances for the acclaim, fame and money! That’s how he won 1500m gold

Coevett is right Peter Coe was the strictest disciplinarian like Gjert, their sons would never dope and anyway GB has a higher level of moral and cultural refinement than loose knitted Americans in general.
Kerr is your defacto 1500m Olympic gold medallist because the American Hocker has been found wanting for drugs

No, I would put Nguse in a different category than Hocker, and I think he has tremendous potential in the 5000m.

Another hypocritical POM. LOL
Kerr was flattened by a superior athlete!
I’ve only been on this forum for a grand total of 1 month but it’s not hard for me to identify clearly bigoted hate against the GB motherland. I’m not GB but I sympathize with their athletes and Coevett for being falsely accused of doping out of American jealousy

He closed a 3:30 in like 53. How is a 3:27 suspicious let alone at 2:09 level of suspicious.
