The cheat sheet he references is all from Mosop's 2011 Boston buildup and it's been loosely used by that group of guys in Chicago since like 2014. The groups is mostly regionally competitive age groupers (a couple of trials qualifiers over the years) so it's not, like, a sub-elite amateur powerhouse.
Pretty wild that Centro used a 14yo training plan as his template. To me that says a lot about a) the efficacy of the plan and b) Centro's elite athletic ability. The workload from that training plan is no joke, even if you modify it for your ability level.
Dammit, Centro still reads letsrun regularly? That must mean that my attempts to hurt his feelings over the years have been unsuccessful :(
letsrun goes home devastated.
i'm not a centro fan, but i respect the hell out of his olympic gold medal win and think that haters of this race are hating for all the wrong reasons. the field handed centro the opportunity to win and centro took that opportunity. he played it safe and ultimately got the gold.

How is leading the majority of the race playing it safe?

Exactly! If you're never not in the lead you can't lose!

I'm a Centro fan and the 2016 1500m was an absolutely stunning competition.

If his only goal was to pace then I don't blame Centro for not overthinking a training plan and just going with a template that appeared to work for similar like-minded runners.
I enjoyed this interview, came away liking Centro a lot more than I had previously (which, of course, was mostly based off all the unhinged posters on this site)
Really good lesson here. The overwhelming majority of what is said in this forum comes from completely clueless people- from finance to foreign affairs to ped use to specific athletes. Keep that in mind the next time you read a thread.

Thanks for the reminder. I've been falling into the "all pros are doping" mindset when I used to think most people were clean. Always good to remember most people here are idiots.
Actually, it's not that most of the people who follow are idiots (a legit cross-section would actually show as surprisingly intelligent and rational); it's that most of the posts come from a small minority of the people --who are gargantuan a**holes whose primary purpose in life is 'trolling' decent folks, and doing their best to disrupt a potentially-great forum and make constructive discussion impossible.
And the JoBros, of course, could *fix* that pretty easily if they wanted to, but choose not to --cuz they think it makes them more money to leave it the way it is.
