She has been running the majors for more than 4years now! If she is doping then somebody is protecting her. If it’s all good and clean all those 4 years she is been doing Chicago then I guess she is smarter than the system. She is a cop back in Kenya, she got no coach🤣 smart girl😇
At this rate women will break 2 before the men. Are we really going to ignore how obvious this is? She should be tested at least once a day for the next year and see if she gets a lot worse.
Now she didn't just pop up out of nowhere, but the fact that she has been running 2:14:xx for a few years as one of the best marthoners in the world actually makes me more suspicious of the huge drop.
I'm getting early 2000s Barry Bonds vibes. Skinny Barry Bonds had one of his best seasons ever in 98 and got over shadowed by the roided up McGuire-Sosa show. Flash forward a couple years and Bonds blows up like a balloon and shows he was always more talented when on level (now enhanced) playing field.
You think Chepngetich liked running an alltime great 2:14 last fall and getting no recognition after Assefa's and Hasan's exploits?
As the handle suggests, oh please. How much more of a clue do we need? Pogacar in road cycling just had maybe the most dominant cycling season ever, we have a man running 717 for 3000, we have a female running a sub 2:10 marathon.
We have something new in the world of endurance sports.
Yeah. People joking "EPO" all the time are behind the times. Whatever they're on in 2024 is more powerful and as of yet undetectable.
I was in my early 20's when the East Germany and other "Eastern Bloc" USSR satellite countries were in their zenith in women's running and breaking all the records someone which that still exist today. Unfortunately Kenya feels that way to me now with hundreds of drug cheats over the last few years. It's hard to get excited with performances probably powered by science. I was much more excited to see Phily Bowden make a 4 min PR in Berlin, someone I've happily followed for a couple years.
. Kenya has 100% become Russian of the 70's and East Germany/Poland of the 80's and China of the 90's in terms a women's running and science! Congrats to Susanna Sullivan, (USA) and her 2:21. A great time for someone without much fanfare <3
Rojo, I think in your recap, you should greet this performance with the same degree of skepticism of every reader and poster on Letsrun. Please don’t react with bewildered shock. You know as well as everyone else that Ruth C. is doped to the gills and that furthermore the sport is tainted and ruined. Pay the Letsrun community the respect it deserves.
She averaged under 5:00 per mile for a full marathon, the first woman to do so.(she averaged under 4:58/mile).
Aside from sub 2:09, the NEXT barrier for women- 2:08:33. That was Derek Clayton's marathon time recognized by the IAAF as the world's best time for over 12 and a half years from May 1969-December 1981. That was the time everyone talked about during the running boom in the 1970's. (The Chicago Marathon was first held in 1977, New York City 1970...)

This is an important point. Either she'll get popped tomorrow, or she's clean (which I very much doubt), or what she's taking is not currently detectable. Of course, if she's not clean, then she's probably not the only person taking whatever she's taking, and it's not new. Kipchoge and recently Kiptum ran comparably fast times for men and presumably passed drug tests as well.
I think there are only two real possibilities: 1) these athletes are clean, or 2) they are taking something not currently detectable. If 2), then it's not new, since Kipchoge has had it for years. But it must take years to have full effect, and women got access to it later than men (but Chepngetich has had it all along).
I don't think she's clean, but why would one go out and run a time that outlandishly fast if they're doping? It's totally reckless. It's either complete stupidity or she's extremely confident she's not getting caught.
