Wingate Method:
1. Secure vast amounts of scholarship money from unknown sources.
2. Recruit 25 europeans with solid running credentials.
3. Expose said Europeans to a professional training environment (academics there are a joke).
4. Profit.
Don't pretend that Wingate is anything more than mediocre at developing athletes. They simply roll the dice on 25 guys and get enough success stories to field 5-7 competitive runners.
It's actually a very innovative approach. No other school in NCAA history has managed to create this system. Historically speaking, most NCAA schools that focus on foriegners are limited in the number they can recruit. Since foreign athletes can be very hit or miss, those teams tend to be very inconsistent over the years. Wingate avoids this problem with their absolutely massive roster size and seemingly unlimited scholarship cap.
