Let me preface this by saying, my average HR on my long run yesterday was 165 compared to CJs 155, so I am clearly a workout hero.
but, with CJ running (and then posting) numbers like these, anything short of an AR is a disappointment. The guy just ran 24 miles at his PR pace at the end of a week of miles. If he was being coached by Canova this LR would point towards a 2:03 (this is roughly 40k at 95% of 2:03 pace). My question is, if he is really this fit, how did he not dominate the Oly trials? How did he only run 2:09 high at Boston?
Because this "workout" is already at race effort, so he cannot do much better in actual race.

I think CJ is just freakishly good at recovering and running close to his best despite not being fresh. If running a marathon on five consecutive days was an Olympic event, he might win gold. This workout might indicate close to AR fitness for another athlete, but for CJ, I predict he runs 2:08 in Chicago, which would still be a great result.

I mean, is that accurate? His highest HR mile was really mile 2 and he ran a fairly steady pace. That seems to defy everything I know about human physiology.

Makes no sense right? Idk but that would suggest he's much faster than his pb? But we know how it goes with him so not holding my breath
the guys an absolute crank, doing it for the attention and facebook likes. very easy to run like this when no ones watching. all the hallmarks of a guy who will choke when it counts
Might be totally off here, but seriously curious about the ideology behind not adding on ~2 miles. While it would not be a PR run, or be official, it would still be quite a fast marathon under your belt. Does he believe that extra 2 is the difference between an injury and a good day of recovery?
For example, if you do a very fast 4.95k tempo, that if finished would be just a bit slower then your PR pace, would you not want to do the last 50 meters?
That being said I am a prep runner and have not raced above 10k, so would not be surprised if I am totally wrong here. Would appreciate someone attempting to explain.
Unsure what the thought process is but he doubled with another 5 in the afternoon to get to 29 on the day...
I hope he runs well in Chicago. Idk how he does it but the week had 5 hard sessions in it. He's doing quite a bit of work faster than the MP running in the long run. 3 weeks out you'd typically see an elite athlete do a bigger long run with MP mixed in. This is next level.

He said the thought on doubling in the afternoon with 5 was to get “heat stimulus” since it was like 100 degrees in the afternoon. and he did sauna as well. if he gets tired of marathoning he should move up to ultras.
Why does CJ get so much flack for his strava account? He ran 510 miles in the month of September. Yes Clayton Young only ran 430 but Zach Panning ran 530.

How many other elites run 2:10 marathons on back to back weekends?

Oh boy, I can't wait to see how he overtrains for a 100 miler!
