he doesn't have the arm strength to tie ends of a rope to his neck and a bannister let alone the body strength to physically jump from said bannister and put a stop to all his tired nonsense. nursing home won't just sneak attack his face with a pillow while he's sleeping and do themselves and us a favor. the mods won't ban an obvious troll and be done with it.

But, since he is now susceptible to losing in the 1500m as we know, he acts as if he's the guardian of the sport so he can still one-up his competition. Emphasising how he's always there after Monaco I believe, saying Kerr will be remembered as the "Brit who never races", making a point of thanking Hocker for turning up in Lausanne. He seems to be suggesting he's superior to other 1500m guys as he has the moral high ground and races himself .
Yeah we get it, you're desperate to be the best so you'll divert attention to your good deeds for the sport since you're not winning all the time anymore.

even if jakob never wins a championship 1500m again, he's still the best 1500m runner because he is a 1500m runner who makes the most money. jakob has made nike BY FAR more money than kerr made for brooks. in return, nike probably gives jakob huge bonuses that brooks can't afford to give kerr. idk how much money they make, but jakob has to make at least 5x more than kerr does per year.
and we've also seen the polls about who wins what race. despite jakob losing 3 championship 1500m races in a row, jakob still manages to win the polls against people who have won championship races. jakob is easily the fan favorite on letsrun. if you watch the half marathon from last sunday, the cameras and commentators were eyeing jakob more than the medal contenders. everyone knows jakob is the best guy in competitive running right now.
Maybe that suggests fans' delusion rather than Jakob's ability?
Or he just enjoys competing and wants to prove he is the best so he races often against the best.
That's so much better and more respectable than someone like say Sydney McLaughlin-Levrone (no hate, just facts) who is totally dominant but only shows up for like two races each year outside the Olys/Worlds. Or Kerr too, doesn't he only race a few times a year too? Much more interesting to see athletes actually race rather than barely show up anywhere to compete.
But you're missing my point... if Jakob loves racing so much, he can just get his head down and do it, I wouldn't have a problem. But, since he's starting losing more, he's acting as if he's still above his rivals with his actions outside of racing. Comments he has made really demonstrate this and make me it look like he's trying to be the hero of the sport - pretty disrespectful. Who does he think he is to have a go like that... as if he's desperate to be centre of attention still despite not being olympic champion over 1500

this is a very dumb post lol. daniel jones is one of the best players in the nfl based on your logic here. we're evaluating the sport not their private lives - good for them for making $$ but it's irrelevant to the discussion at hand

I think that's right. By any objective measure he had a great 2024. But I think wants to be viewed like Faith Kipyegon, who has dominated the 1500 in a way that Jakob never will because he does not have the full skill set, or even Hassan who can win medals across an amazing range of distances. Right now he is the best 15/5 runner in the world. Very impressive, but nothing abnormally great.
Jakob's new tactic this season: Emphasise the amount he races as more than others.
Why? He knows there's a good chance he gets beat when it really matters in the 1500m. Having the fall back of racing more than his rivals (predominantly Kerr) is a way to "one-up" them and almost take the high ground. That's why he's did pretty much all of the DL mile/1500 races, Copenhagen half, etc. He can portray himself as a guardian of the sport whilst painting the people who can beat him in a bad light.
I'm a Jakob fan. I love the fact that he races a lot, and I respect him for kicking his own ass in the HM. And I love that he has a big mouth.
But at the same time, he is - in my view - the FOURTH best 1500m runner in the world in 2024. No need for debate. We had a contest to find out who was the best and he came in fourth.
