Admittedly, it's not a track athlete but can this positive test officially kill off the idea that many have on here that HSers don't dope. After receiving a tip, USADA popped a 17-year-old skier for the following drugs:
USADA announced today that Michael Smith, 17, of Fryeburg, Maine, an athlete in the sport of ski and snowboard, has accepted a three-year period of ineligibility for an anti-doping rule violation after testing positive for several potent anabolic agents.
“This case speaks to the alarming accessibility of dangerous and powerful substances, even for minors, that have the potential to significantly impact the health of athletes and the integrity of competitions,” said Travis T. Tygart, USADA CEO. “We’re so grateful for tips, like the one in this case, that allow us to conduct the investigations and testing necessary to root out these threats to athlete safety and fair sport.”
Due to the concerning nature of a minor testing positive for multiple dangerous prohibited substances, USADA conducted further investigation of the athlete support personnel involved with Smith as well as teammates and other athletes in Smith’s circle. Through its investigation, USADA determined that no athlete support personnel or other adults assisted Smith in his doping.

Back in the ‘90s, our state-title winning boys’ track team doped, specifically the sprinters. Everyone knew it. I never understood the narrative of “high school kids” don’t do PEDs.
The reward is greater than the risk for high school athletes. In reality it's only a drive across the border to a sketchy Mexican pharmacy to get what you need.

Men’s Health just published a long expose of PED use in teenagers and Gen Z. The use of anabolic steroids, especially trenbolone, “tren”, is rampant. Any kid who looks like that is following in the footsteps of “influencers” pushing this crap. Look at the “Tren Twins” on TikTok, or the “30-Day Tren Challenge”.

Yes, HS dope, but it is not a big deal. Studies have shown the long term effects are minimal. Also, there is no uneven playing field because everyone has access to the same stuff.
So these kids are taking safe, effective products to get better which everyone is able to procure and use in their own training. Why is this a problem for people? Because these things weren’t available in the 20th Century? Progress is a good thing.
Very concerning. I am opening up a clinic on my back porch for HS athletes to submit urine samples. I vow to stop these performance enhancing substances from penetrating our communities of vulnerable youth.

37 upvotes... the Rupp misinformation campaign was truly devastating. He's clean, and always has been. Yeah, he took "testosterone boosting" supplements, which are completely legal (and you don't use if you're also just taking testosterone)
