4500 feet is nothing, matter of fact, this altitude has zero affect on performance. You have to get above 5200.
Yes. There's a magical line you cross at exactly 5200 feet. Everyone knows this.
I was always told it was 5252 feet. But we are in agreement. It is magic. As you know, that poster is a moron. Provo elevation impacts distance running performance, and if I recall, it is about 4500.
centro already said on the lrc youtube podcast that he was training for a marathon this year. why is this a mystery to people here?
Because most of us have root canals, colonoscopies, waterboarding, and other things to fill our time that are more enjoyable than listening to the LRC podcast.
Is there a possibility he will be pacing Keira at Chicago? They've been training together and Keira usually has ambitious goals. Will the plan be for Centro to pace Keira on an AR attempt?
Please review Hassan’s race results from 2015-2017.
I did you one better. I reviewed all of her race results.
Sifan Hassan's first races of her career were HM'S and 10K'S.
She has raced 17 800's, 80 15'S, 20 3K's, 29 5K's, 9 10K's, 4 HM'S.
Meanwhile, Centro has raced 22 8'S, 103 15'S, 6 3K's, 8 5K'S, 0 10K's.
Hassan's transition to the marathon is ridiculously impressive, but she started much closer to the marathon than Centro did.
She officially ran one half and one 10K in 2011 and neither result appeared close to elite. Everything after that was shorter track races, including a lot of 1500s.
So I'd still call her a mileage specialist, whether or not she hobbyjogged a couple longer races when she was young. She didn't seriously do them again until recently, and certainly not at an elite level before then.

I believe the confusion lies in his comment on not knowing how seriously he would take it. I think a lot of us were aware that he announced he would be ending his career by completing a marathon but in what fashion has remained up in the air.
I was thinking about it today, does anyone remember his exact quote regarding his retirement? Did he say retirement from the track or retirement period? I’m getting my hopes up at this point. I would love to see him up there competing with Connor and Clayton and I really think that would be huge for the future development of US marathoning.
Way back in 2017 I saw Centro in the crowds walking to the start of the Chicago Marathon. I recall reading later that he was pacing somebody for 10 miles and then dropped out. Maybe he's been planning for a long time to run Chicago someday after finishing his track career? Wouldn't be surprising if he did it by "pacing" somebody again, but this time for the whole distance.

The point is you wrote that Hassan has always been a 15/5 runner, when in fact she ran the 15/800 double in Beijing 2015 and Rio 2016 before she ever contested a global championship 5k, and she ran 1:56 before ever breaking 14:40. Wheeling out the 1:17 half and 34:28 road 10k Hassan ran in 2011/2012 is no better than citing Centro’s college cross country results.
Did someone finally explain to Centro that all your mitochondria DNA is only inherited from your mother so it literally cannot be "like father like son"

Hassan won Euro Cross country (a 6K and an 8K) twice before competing in a global championship in any event.
