We changed the title of the thread to make it more factual and descriptive. It was initially entitled, "I guess Brosnan did actually do it," but the release says the former coach (Brosnan) is still disputing the allegations.
The agreed-upon violations occurred over several months and include impermissible communications, primarily with parents of student-athletes at other schools who were not in the NCAA Transfer Portal.
It's no surprise that the NCAA looked into this. In addition to several other college coaches being mad that Brosnan was taking their athletes, Brosnan was bragging in the fall of 2022 that he had several college girls who were going to be transferring to UCLA.
And when those college girls did eventually transfer to UCLA, you can see that the date they entered the portal was only a day or two before they decided to go to UCLA. In other words, they had already decided where to transfer to before they entered the portal.
I think Brosnan's defense will be that he contacted their parents, not the girls directly. Or maybe he asked a friend of his to contact the parents, something along those lines. I would be surprised if the NCAA buys his indirect contact excuse.
Brosnan comes off as a complete lowlife and just lost ALL CREDIBILITY.
If he just admitted it, said he got the rules confused, and apologized it wouldn't have been a big deal.
Instead, he told MASSIVE lies, including to LRC in the interview by saying the NCAA already came out and said he did nothing wrong. That was clearly FALSE.
We need Gault to reach out to Brosnan directly and ask him if he'd like to correct the record from his previous interview where he said:
"Brosnan said the NCAA investigated the claims and he cooperated with the investigation and even turned over his phone. “Nothing was found. I’m 100% confident in that … There were no violations,” said Brosnan."
Brosnan's upcoming book should be listed in the FICTION section. He is like a pathological liar.
Brosnan, who coached the greatest boys HS disatnce team in history at Newbury Park, has confirmed to LetsRun.com that he won't be returning for a 2nd year at UCLA. "I'm disappointed. I'm bummed. I'm upset. I don't want to pre...
“UCLA has reached an agreement with NCAA enforcement staff on recruiting violations that occurred within the women's cross country and track and field programs. A Committee on Infractions panel has approved the agreement. A former assistant cross country and track and field coach has disputed the violations in this agreement and will resolve his portion of the case through a separate hearing. The agreed-upon violations occurred over several months and include impermissible communications, primarily with parents of student-athletes at other schools who were not in the NCAA Transfer Portal. The school fully cooperated with the investigation and worked collaboratively with the NCAA enforcement staff to bring the matter to a timely resolution.”
Basically the same things he did when he was coaching HS. I can't imagine being so bad at recruiting that you can't get HS kids to come to UCLA with what is suppose to be a great coach. Then you have to contact parents of kids already in another NCAA school to get them to transfer. It was so obvious that he was breaking rules that they got the NCAA to actually investigate a terrible XC program at UCLA.
Yeah, OK sure. Not sure if you understand how settlements work, but typically it's a compromise between both parties that usually lands in the middle between what both sides think and usually is shaped by the evidence presented. So, the accusations were probably quite a bit more than what what was settled on and UCLA obviously saw there was evidence of some wrong doing, so cooperated and accepted the punishment. If there was no evidence of wrong doing, they would not have accepted penalties. The accusations had merit, which is why UCLA settled.
That's actually not how settlements work in the real world. You're ignoring that the cost of fighting is far, far greater than the cost of settling, at least for small-time stuff like this. Utterly meritless lawsuits are settled all the time because it's easier to give a plaintiff 5k than it is to pay your own lawyer 150k to fight. NCAA schools hardly ever fight about this stuff. They say sorry and try to stay in the NCAA's good graces. They only bother to fight if serious sanctions against important sports are at stake.
Anyway, I'm not saying ANYTHING about what Brosnan did or didn't do. I'm just saying that the settlement doesn't tell you anything either.
Also helps explain why Brosnan hasn't landed another college job. With rare exceptions, no school wants to take on a guy who has NCAA sanctions still looming.
Of course, he may not have landed another job because no one wants him for a variety of reasons. But seems safe to assume that this is a factor.
I'm gonna go with "pathological narcissism" as one of those other reasons.
You guys are all acting like he is f**king OJ, guilty as sin. But OJ was acquitted, y'all. Brosnan will be too. You can cash that f**king check right now.

um, OJ is "f**king" dead and completely irrelevant to the discussion at hand. thanks for trying though.
This is UCLA paying 5k to make it go away. Seems to be a total nothing burger. It’s a win for Sean.
This is a MASSIVE LOSS for Sean. UCLA is vacating their women's NCAA 4th place DMR because of this.
"Additionally, team records will be vacated from all regular-season and postseason competitions in which the involved athletes were ineligible."
Brosnan's single greatest NCAA coaching accomplishment HAS BEEN DISQUALIFIED.
This decision makes it extremely unlikely he will get another college coaching job. It also hurts his resume because he can't claim he coached a 4th place DMR on job applications.

Based on his past claims, I'm sure it won't stop him. He will probably claim he coached the winning team. Maybe multiple winning teams.
This is RIDICULOUS. All the announcement was today is that the investigation has been split into two. UCLA made a deal and is not going to fight, whereas Brosnan will continue to fight. There is ZERO admission of guilt.
UNTRUE. People seem to forget that Nico was a freshman when Brosnan took over that team. By the time Nico was a Senior, they had won NXN. Colin was 3rd on the NXN team, and Lex 7th. Brosnan was the reason this happened. He created enough vision to do so, and along the way, got all of the parents and kids to buy into 30 days at Big Bear the summer before that Championship.

YOUR post is RIDICULOUS. There was an admission of guilt, by UCLA. Brosnan obviously can't take responsibility for what he did, so he'll keep pushing and pushing. His punishment may not have been announced, but it's coming for sure.
The point is that this tells us nothing. UCLA, like pretty much every other school, is happy to accept a slap on the wrist and move on. It's easier than fighting. It doesn't mean the case has merit. It's a settlement.

This is not true. They accepted the minor penalties because they don’t care about Track or Cross country at UCLA. It’s a way for UCLA to move on and they don’t care. The fact that Brosnan has no violations at this point shows he has strong standing and the NCAA’s lack of evidence
