Yeah but in all honesty, so was Hicham.
The night when he ran 3.26.34 with wavelight he and Hicham would have conceivably run a full second faster.
They were out idiotically fast thanks to Graham Hood who honestly did an awful job (thanks Canada) pulling the field through 2 and 400m in 26.6 and 53.6 and then running a 56.5 (a 3 second difference - terrible given what we know now). Next lap was 56.0 (2.46.10).
Energy cost wise I would doubt there was much difference between that and going 54.6, 55.0, 55.4 or so - something quite attainable with wavelight, they could have hit 1200m just over a second faster then closed out in the same speed.
So Bernie could have run low 3.25's. Supercharged 1998 Hicham - he of the 39.66 final 300m to run 3.26.00 could have put this record in the 3.24.6/8 range at his best under current DL race conditions.
