A sub-49 attempt by Kipyegon? Otherwise, what can she gain with just another DL win?
It’s her occupation bro
Fair enough. But my question is why the 1500 when there were other distances she could have run. The 3000 in Lausanne, the 1000 in Silesia, or the 5000 in Zurich. It doesn't seem like she would target the 1500 if it is not a WR attempt.

At this point in her career Faith Kipyegon does not run races just because it's her "job". In her short remaining time on the track I think she views every race as another building block towards enhancing her legacy in some way.
27:26 10,000m run this year at Ethiopian Trials and 10th at World XC. I would agree that still seems like a stretch to have him in the field proper especially if Morgan McDonald (13:00 PB) couldn't get in this meet. It is possible he is pacing, and I think mediocre is harsh but you'd have to think he would be targeting a 13:05-13:10 type time here. That doesn't make a ton of sense to be in the field unless he is pacing.
Gotta be a pacer…he and Nicholas Griggs?
Possible, but I think Nick Griggs is likely here to race. He's just turned 20 and is well-known on the European scene from his u20 championship performances on the track and in XC. He only just lost out to Christensen and Laros at Euro XC in December. That 13:13 came on a grim day in Ireland so I think he can lower it again in a good field like this.
With Chepkoech out there might be greater opportunity for the American steeplechase women to be mildly competitive. Chepkoech quickly puts the pace out of reach for any American. Given her absence Yavi is content with any type of race while relying on her late kick. It becomes a matter of what Chemutai and Cherotich want to do with the opening kilometer.
Kipyegon needs to boost her points if she wants to be in the diamond league final. She has low points since she has only raced one 1500 in diamond league
People saying kerr has been ducking, but Jakob is also ducking the 5k guys.
One might say Jakob ducked the 5000m in Oslo (chose the 1500m there), and now Rome -well, the last one is probably to close to Zurich DL (might ruin that important event) and in the first one he was in a recovery process where it might have been logical to prioritise his main event… But he’s meeting most of the 5k guys in the 3k tomorrow… Do you really think ducking is the main theme here..?

Jakob certainly doesn’t duck, but he stays with what he likes which is circuit 1500s/3000s and championship 1500-5000s. I’d like to see to do a bigger challenge like a DL 5000 or World XC, but ultimately he doesn’t enjoy those races as much as the shorter ones.

However it goes, Constien can't be much less competitive than she was in Paris.

What's with the 14:06 guy in the 5000? Not a local entry, and I can't imagine he's a pacer since he appears to primarily be a mediocre 10k/half guy.

Yeah, I get the sense Jakob only runs the 5,000 in championship meets to pick up the (relatively) easy gold medal, not because he likes the race.

nah, it has nothing to do with enjoyment. He just knows that he can dominate the DL circus in the 1500m, but in the 5000m, he would be spanked by Gebrhiwet and Kejelcha in a 12:30ish or low 12:40 race.

Great that he got in. It will be a tough one for him to target sub-13. You'd think the front of the race will be going at least 12:45 pace and he can't go with that. Maybe he can work with people like Griggs and Hay and I hope they have a second set of lights set for just sub-13.
