Wow, such a big man for making a bold statement. i want to be just like you someday. The problem is I am already cynical about 300 times per day, and that's my accomplishment. I am like you already! Love it and you too! Smooches galore!
While true, Wnayonyi aslo ran 1:41.19 at the olympics after several rounds (only 0.08 seconds slower), in a championship race, and multiple 1:41:X performances this year. The result doesn't indicate its a fast track. Times were fairly slow accross the board at this meet.

Do you think that being in your goal race for the whole year, with an incredible field and 70,000 screaming fans, is a disadvantage?
Just accept that Wanyoni wan very fast in Paris and that the track at Lausanne is good enough for him to run just as fast!
He's so good, he'll break it even if he doesn't get it. Within the next year he'll be leading for 1450m and get second, running 3:25:92, while pacing Hocker to a 3:25:85. You heard it here first. Terms and conditions apply. Facts sold separately.

That wasn't my takeaway today. Dude is now dropping 3:27s like they're trips to the grocery store.
Exactly. He is brushing up against his ceiling. you nailed it. The ceiling is 3:26.5 so you are correct that he will run 3:27s fairly regularly when he has pacemakers.
And how many times have we heard that line over the years? I remember only 3-4 years ago we had people on here saying Hockers ceiling was 3:35. Now he’s Olympic champ with a 3:27 PB. Similar for Jakob or any athlete. A ceiling is only a ceiling until it’s broken. Then it’s onto the next ceiling.

Will Hocker ever beat Jakob again?
I'm thinking next WC. More like guessing tho. Actuality I have no idea tbh. But it would be really cool if what I say turns out to be true by sheer coincidence.

Actually I don't mind if Jacob wins, but my attempt to find a loophole to the OP by saying he'll break it even without getting it would not have been possible. Also the specifics of my prediction will seem more like the baseless conjecture it probably is. I just want to appear mysteriously precognisant before the fact.

Right, until he has a day like Hocker had in Paris and the stars align.
Jakob knows the 1500m WR is going to be tough for him, he has said as much multiple times. He likes the challenge of aiming for it and wants to chip away at his PB a little bit at a time, which is exactly what he has been doing.
What is interesting to me is that he does not view the other WRs up to half marathon nearly as challenging for him. Time will tell.

I doubt if he ever runs the 10000m or HM, so time probably won’t tell. Every elite distant runner knows the WRs are difficult to break.
