Same exact race but Hocker breaks the world record. Jakob second. Kerr then Nuguse.

Just saw via a social media post all top 4 finishers from the Men’s Olympic 1500m final - Hocker, Kerr, Nuguse and Jakob are all confirmed for the Diamond League Zurich 1500m on September 5th. With a pacer and pacing lights will be interesting to see the difference in times and placings 1st - 4th. What’s everyone’s predictions? Would have to give the edge to Jakob for the win and possibly a mid 3:26. He’s the master of time trialing and his 3:28 solo at the Olympics should not be underrated.
Jakob will win if there is a pacer but the pacer had better be really good as I think Cole can run 326. A WR wouldn't shock me. I think could end up being like El G - Lagat in Brussels in 2001.
1 3:26.12 Hicham El Guerrouj MAR 14.09.74 1 Bruxelles 24.08.2001
2 3:26.34 Bernard Lagat KEN 12.12.74 2 Bruxelles 24.08.2001
But if he's going to insist on winning the 1500 in an honorable fashion, why doesn't he ask meet organizers to ditch the rabbits so he can take another crack at it? Try to nail the first perfectly and see if he still gets beat.
PS. The Grand Slam Track League will be a god-send for Jakob in terms of practice if he ends up doing it next year as he'll get practice against Kerr without rabbits.
Also we'll get to see what his true 800 ability is.
So a confident Hocker and a pissed-off Jakob are both racing a 1500 twice in the next month, with Nuguse and Kerr in the field the second time.
Kind of seems like a fall and a bomb is the only way the WR survives this month.....

You can't possibly think that he's going to bother with that. Jakob ain't runnin no 800s.

Question I’ve had for a while, how are paces for these races picked? I’d imagine Jakob usually gets to dictate it to some degree, however that works, but what about in a field like this? 3 medalists and 3:27 guys and a 3:26 guy. Is it chosen for them? Does someone have more influence than someone else?
I'm guessing the meet director will usually talk to the most likely winner(s) and look for someone to pace whoever plans to run fastest -- as long as it is a reasonable plan. In this case I'm guessing that they are looking for a pacer who can run world record pace for as close to 1100 meters as possible . . . and then asking them to do that. It's no small feat to find someone who can make it to 1100 at 3:28 1500 pace. If they get to 1100 at 2:32, the WR is still on the table with a fast last lap.

No way Jakob lets Hocker come inside him at the finish again.
I love when you talk dirty.

Cole Hocker gets to choose the pace as the new Olympic champ.
Meet Directors want a fast time and will very likely listen to the one who wants the fastest race which is Jakob. I don’t remember races starting to be rabbited slowly after Rio because Centro wanted so and i don’t expect it now.
Not a real race if there's pacemakers. Of course, the pack could ignore the pacemakers.
55-55.5-55.5 for 2:46 and then a 40 is the WR. Doesn't seem unreasonable that the 3 medalist can stick close to that pace. I just don't think they'll have it in 3 weeks. Jakob will obviously because he's a time trial merchant. I think the WR will come down to Jakob closing better than he did in Monaco.
Kerr will probably have gained 7lbs already , it was all about Paris for him .
Jakob will win now he's got a pacer 😴
Kerr might chicken out in the end since he already "PEAKED".
I think gaina of 1s/500m is accurate with pacing.
That would put Jakob in low 3'26" with 2,5 laps-ish of pacing (1100m looks like a reasonable stretch).
However Kerr, Nuguse and Hocker look to be 3'27/8" ish based on that same assumption and their race in Paris.
I would say that at least one of them can't keep up with the pace(r) but that it looks very probable that Jakob and at least one of them is there by the final turn and that Jakob nails it by a thread on the finish line in a sub 3'27" race.
There is also a good chance that he get the WR, but by a very small margin, like 3'25"86.

I reckon Mills goes Steven Seagal on the above named athletes. They all DNF he gets DQ’d and Hoare, McSweyn and Spencer come home for an Aussie sweep in 3.36
Will need the pacemaker to really go for it for a WR. But it seems possible. Jakob is a known quantity and in 3:26 shape. Yared and Kerr ran very good races and did not have much left in Paris so I doubt they have 3:25 in them. Genuinely I think Hocker has the best shot but I am not sure he will deal with going out in 1:49-1:50 too well. If he can manage that he genuinely could get the record, he clearly had another half second in him in Paris with a clear path to the line.
The clear elephant in the room is that Hocker is on something. There is no way you improve from 3:30 to now being a factor to break the WR. Too good to be true.
Kerr said that while it was an all-time Olympic 1500 meter final, they can’t really stake a claim to being a an all-time great group of runners unless one of them breaks the world records (like his countrymen, Coe v Ovett v Cram). Which was great to hear.
I’m picking Nuguse, which will raise him to 1A status with the other 3.
