Most athletes who win Olympic gold are not able to afford a crown. It just shows that she is a rich person who flaunts her wealth. Disgraceful.

It was quite ridiculous for a grown up. She looked like a 8 y.o girl going for a pageant.
Would any guy who won put a crown on his head?
For me it is a sign of mental insecurity / trouble.
Her sister in law put it on her head
It's not a big deal
the undisputed queen of track. what else is she supposed to put on her head?
and it didn’t come with any carry on.
for some unexplainable reason Americans are looking for an excuse to dislike Sydney. the rest of the world loves her so just sit back and enjoy the greatness, you won’t see anything else like it in your lifetime.

The post-race interview she talks about how her sister-in-law was talking about giving it to her post-race and she thought it was a joke. She seemed like she didn’t want to wear it but her fam/support group kept putting it on haha
Her not wanting to wear it was the one thing that has endeared her to me.
It was pretty obvious that she wasn't comfortable wearing it. How many times did she take it off or try to get rid of it? I agree with Yes987. Her not wanting to wear it was "endearing."

Amazing race. I thought it was a bit much that she put on an actual crown after the race, though. There’s trying to be a showman (a la Lyles), which I can appreciate, but this one missed the mark in my opinion for being over the top.
Curious: what did you all think about her crown?
When you dominate like that so many global finals in a row, you can wear whatever you damned well please.
whatever it is, it's super cringe and Im not looking forward to the hundreds of girls in high school and women in college having a crown on standby if they win from now on because Mother Sydney did it in Paris
Noah Lyles can wear a tiara. Sha'Carri Richardson can wear a tiara. But Sydney is too serious about her craft to be parading around in a Tiara after a win. Especially not after a historic race like that. I feel bad for her that her husband and sister in law put her in that position.
Watching live post race it seemed clear to me that she did not want to wear the crown. I remember that it was her husband Andre Levrone who cajoled her into wearing it. She thought it was a distraction and it was and apparently still is. She deserves credit for an outstanding gold medal. Let's all stop talking about the silly crown that she she didn't want. Blame her husband. Since this is Letsrun, let's all acknowledge that she is an incredible and very attractive athlete - we wish she was single!
It was obvious to anyone watching...let me rephrase...anyone watching who has a glimmer of common sense...that she didn't want to wear it. She kept taking it off and others kept putting it back on so she finally relented and wore it. I felt bad for her. In a moment that should have been hers to celebrate as she wished she had loved ones trying to force their idea of how to celebrate upon her. I didn't see it but apparently her postrace interview confirmed that. But haters gonna hate.
Good on her. If a woman breaks a world record at the olympics, she deserves a tiara. It doesn't look particularly special or anything, prob something you can get at a costume store or online. Keely wore a crown too and I'd rate the design of Sydney's as better.
Maybe her sister in law got it from Athing. Athing: "Well, I'm not gonna need it this summer, so you can let Sydney borrow it."

I’ll take it over a grotesque face mask and bull nose ring 10/10 times.

So THAT is what you thought you looked insecure and insane, not the female American throwers?! Umkaaaaaaayyyy….
Made popcorn. Now watching the racist-tinged misogyny pour in.
I'm sure the French love it, they were found of women wearing crowns.

I seem to recall that in France the crowned heads rolled.
It was silly and put on her by others, but if anyone deserves it, it's Sydney. All she does is set world records.
Keely looked like a Valkyrie with her crown. Gorgeous, lithe, blonde.
Syd looked like an overgrown kid playing dress-up. Embarrassing.
