I say no because I believe there's soon to be a breakthrough in the 1500m similar to what we're now seeing in the men's 800m. Somebody going 3:24.x or multiple somebodies going 3:25 - 3:26, so there's some room for improvement. I really like Hocker and would love to see him as the goat and WR holder someday but it's more likely that he's just one of the very best of a very good era.
Something is going on, maybe continued effect of better shoes and training that will take some years to play out (years of better training in better shoes leading to sick times or something like that). The men's 800m is being redefined, the women's 1500m is being redefined, and while the men's 1500m is getting very deep with sub 3:30 guys, we still haven't seen the top blow off and a new WR set. Same with the women's 1500m. No disrespect intended but Keely doesn't seem like the person with the most raw talent in the 800m but is running 1:54. Soon the women's 800m is going to be sub 155 to medal and somebody will get into the 1:52s.
I know it's a weird take but I stand by it.
