This might actually be a good idea. Yared should take it out fast and if Jakob is on his shoulder, he should allow him to get ahead of him. This eliminates Hocker and perhaps Kerr because at that point Jakob will gun for 3:26-3:27. Reminder that Nuguse drafted off of Jakob and ran 3:43 high. If he is in the shape of his life, this could be a great strategy.
I'm not sure where the idea that Kerr cannot hang with a fast pace comes from. No, he hasn't been doing time trials recently, but when was the last time he was outright dropped in a race? You've got to go back several years, right?
Go back to last year in Lausanne. Jakob dropped Josh like a bad habit in the final 100 of a 3:28 race. Obviously Kerr is a different runner this year so it doesn’t mean much.
The thing with Kerr is that we don’t really know how he will fare in a super fast race. Even at Pre they only split 2:50 at 1200. How would he feel coming through in 2:46?
Watch any diamond league with Kerr from last year. He was dropped by Jakob in every one.
Kerr has never cared about DL races though. He only peaks for championship races.
Idk, I think many people are still underestimating Kerr here.
I'm not underestimating him. But he has never split sub 2:48 at 1200m and had anything to respond with. Jakob last year was in about 3:26 shape by the time Budapest came around and he struggled to kick hard off of a 2:49 mid due to an illness, which Kerr took advantage of. If Nuguse is able to take it out hard and Jakob follows through, I don't see anybody outkicking Jakob at 1200m.

It comes from his 1500m PB being 3:29.05–a mark set three years ago.
Sure he ran 3:45.34 at the Bowerman Mile. But this was with PACERS and WAVELIGHTS! And we all know these glorified time trials mean NOTHING when it comes to CHAMPIONSHIP racing.
I think he should lead the race for the first 400-600 at 56 pace. Jakob will take the lead after that. Perhaps he even tells Jakob ahead of time. I know this helps JI, but it also helps Nuguse. He hates running in a pack and needs a 3:28 race to medal.
It was pretty interesting that Goose told Kessler his strategy for the semi. Pretty cool of him and it worked out great for both Americans. First time since 1968 that there are 3 Americans in the 1500 final! Should be epic
I couldn’t agree more. Of course you can’t be too rigidly set on any one strategy, since someone else could blast the first lap, but this should be plan A for Nuguse. And Diribe Welteji should do the same (at ~63) until Kipyegon takes over and begins winding it up.
It’s such a mutually beneficial strategy that I wonder if he should literally discuss it with Jakob beforehand like he did with Hobbs.
I’ve been hoping they go for the WR. It’s not often you get 3 guys who can run 3:26 in the same race. I hope they go for sub 3:25. It’s Jakob’s best chance to win anyways. He probably can’t win a 3:32 race. But 3:25.5? Who else can run that?

That’s what 55 flat pace? Will be very hard to do going through in 245 and closing in 40
Hocker's PR is also just 3:30, but you think he can't break 3:30 or even 3:29 in Monaco?
Yes i think that is possible. But until they do it, they haven't done it but JI has many many times. He can run a 3:29 on a bad day if he wants. I think it is impossible Hocker can break 3:28 this week. If JI runs a 3:27 he wins. Tell me I'm wrong.

Agree. And if JI doesn’t have to lead the first 600, he is more likely to do it
If Nuguse can at least replicate his 3:43 performance in the final, he'll medal. If he sits in the back and tries to outkick like he's in college again, he won't crack the top 5.

I think you're really underestimating how big of a step-up 3:26 is from 3:28 (or even 3:27:30). And yet you think 3:25 is in the cards??
As far as I'm concerned, only one of them should be called a 3:26 runner at this point, because only one of them has done it.
