Wow. Taylor must be convinced she isn't ever going to be healthy. She is objectively better than several others in her class still on the team.
Remember, new roster limits -- BYU is abiding by them, as they have exactly the max of 18 girls. So it isn't necessarily that she's "never" going to be healthy, it's for this season alone.
the roster limit is enforced at 17 not 18 so they are carrying an extra girl already. I would find it baffling if BYU couldn't afford to carry an extra runner until the roster limits are actually enforced.

Yep. I know she’s injury-prone, but in my opinion it was premature and ultimately a bad move on Taylor’s part. Andie would’ve needed some special handling on both the physical and mental side, but I think with the right approach, she would’ve developed into one of their most lethal runners by a long shot, and had only scratched the surface of her abilities.

You're right, it is 17 rather than 18, my mistake. Still, last year they had 28 (and the men's roster has likewise been reduced from 28 to exactly 17), so clearly the NCAA cap is the general reason for the large reduction. But I too have lots of questions about how this is being applied practically on the ground.

They can afford and would be happy to carry 50. Teams are only eliminating walk ons and cutting rosters because they are forced to, not mainly for budget reasons.
The 18th runner could be someone who was grandfathered in. This can happen still for 3 more years until lom all those runners graduate.
We still have no real facts on Aagard.
If she is hurt and plans to come back, she could be off roster more for convenience.

I'll wait for more info.
Right, thats my point. Aagard was eligible to be grandfathered in. She wasn't though.
And that's the part i find strange. I would also assume they can afford and would like to carry 50, that's why its baffling to me that they have cut down the XC roster. Some programs are fully grandfathering all their existing runners yet one of the most historic and successful programs is choosing not to.
So really, they continue to have the same larger pool of 27 or 28, it's just that now at the beginning of each season, they have to trim the official roster to 17 (with maybe some ambiguity at the fringes due to special circumstances, hence 18 here). But there seems no reason to question that Aagard is still part of the larger pool and could return next season. It's similar to what people were wondering about with Irene Riggs at Stanford (though she's been out for years now).
Perhaps big12 had some agreement, or damage was done too late to keep some as the grandfather decision came very late.
All I mean is that if she is just hurt, she could still reappear on roster in track or next year in XC.
Could of course be she will choose to focus on mountain bike, and just do BYU for academics.
Again, no factual info yet.
I know Andie personally - she was cut from the team (both xc/t&f), it’s not temporary due to injury or anything, she was cut. And for now is still attending BYU as a student.
Interestingly enough, her former Lone Peak classmate / teammate Addie Meldrum is still on the team and will be running at the Cowboy Jamboree this week.
At NXN 2023, Aagard was #1 for Lone Peak and Meldrum was #3
