It was a little bit faster than I expected. But the subsequent 150 wasn't as good as I anticipated, especially after Bol got out of the blocks really well. It almost looked like she caught a rolling start.
Dalilah Muhammad did a podcast interview in 2022 in which she said she looked at her list of personal bests and wasn't happy with some of them. She wanted to make those numbers more impressive before she retired. Bol is still young but I don't think she wanted 12.42 on her ledger at 100. That was the way I looked at yesterday.
IMO, the bigger story was Cathelijn Peeters dropping her personal best 7 tenths to 51.08. She was absolutely thrilled about that, both after the race and later on social media.
Peeters is 27 and a late bloomer. This wasn't supposed to happen. When Peeters turned 25 in late 2021 her personal best was 56.78. She broke 56 for the first time in December of that year and now has chopped nearly an additional 5 seconds. Peeters will never be a world beater. But the relay situation would be a heck of a lot worse without her. Lisanne de Witte is 31, Eveline Saalberg has stalled, Andrea Bouma has been disappointing in recent years and now Britt de Blauuw is in a rough patch. They really need Zoe Sedney to get healthy and back out there.
Bol's outdoor times rarely seem to match her indoor prowess across all events. She runs fast outdoors but it does feel like she should or can be even faster. The only run that I can recall that translated well from indoors to outdoors was her 49.44 at Euro Champs in 2022 (and subsequent 48.5 relay leg). Maybe peaking for indoors is the problem here but I guess we'll never know since running a full indoor season is part of her strategy now.
Bol smashed her 100m PB yesterday in an event she hardly ever runs. 11.47 (-0.3) is a decent time and appropriate for someone that ran 22.6 indoors over 200m. With a slight more positive wind she might have dipped into the 11.3s.
30 mins later she ran 150m, in 17.10
Lieke Klaver equalled her 100m PBof 11.33 in a different heat, and won the 150m in 16.96.
that 11.47 converts to 11.34 with a +2.0 tail wind. 11.34 in the 100m is generally about 23.2 in the outdoor 200m. Sha Carri just run 23.11 this past weekend.
Let that sink in.
You have no idea what you’re talking about. You basically need to double the 100m time to get the equivalent 200m time, not double and add half a second.

That 4x400 is still gonna be dangerous. With Klaver and Bol they will always be in contention for the next few years at least.

Because that was the only time she ran a serious outdoor 400
Say what you like, this is far from a great 100 for Bol. Felix went 10.89 and still never went below 49 for 400. Bol might do it, but not based off this recent 100.
Oh, and 🖕
The 🤡 was for your "she's a mom" comment. It's trite, tired, and really not all that funny.

Based on what? She ran 2 outdoor 400 finals in 2022 which is more or less how many she ran in 2021 or 2023. Neither of those seasons produced great outdoor times relative to her indoor season. Even in indoors, she only needs 2-3 races to set PBs (or WRs). Same for her 200 times.
Even if you want to claim that her 2022 runs were at a bigger champs stage, she also hasn't run outstanding relay legs at Worlds relative to her supposed 400 conversion.

In 2022 it was the only time she ran 400m outdoor in a major championship and she ran almost a second faster than her indoor pb. Last year she ran only 2 outdoor 400 in June, so absolutely not at peak form. Also it's not fair to look at relay times, she usually runs more tactical races in relay(like in Glasgow against Alexis Holmes).

During the indoor season she forfeits a lot of hurdles and technical work to focus on the flat. Then indoor stadiums have a consistent atmosphere....i.e. no wind, cold or weather impact. Add to that the relatively short indoor season, which for Femke, lasts around 1 month.
Come outdoors, her focus is the hurdles, not the flat. Her two races over the flat in 2023 were early season, 2 months+ before the Worlds. Her outdoor season lasts over 3 months. She was nowhere near her peak when she ran those 400s. On top of that, Hengelo is not known as a fast track. In Silesia/Chorzow, where she ran her 2nd 400m, she beat Kaczmarek (on home turf...) by half a second. Kaczmarek when on to win silver at the Worlds, improving by 0.7 there compared to Silesia.
Re her 2022 times, the Europeans came less than 1 month after the Worlds, so arguably she was past her peak.
Bol's relay legs are consistently good: 48.5 (22) 48.7 (23) 48.9 (21) 48.9 (22 x) 49.1 (23 ht) 49.1 (21 ht)...there aren't many women since the turn of the century that have more sub 49 relay runs, in fact I think only Felix (& Bol ties SRR & Grit Breuer with 4 apiece)

Bol trains 100m in service of her 400m hurdles. Her start is her biggest weakness and everyone knows it, so they're working on that.

Given a new PR by 0.3, that means her old PR was 11.77, which is pretty slow for a sprinter, even a long sprinter. Felix was always better at 200 than 400.
This is hilarious. Some people don't need to race all the time. Looks like you'll be rooting for second place as usual. Sydney will embarrass her again like always. I can't wait to see y'all whiny babies lose it when Sydney puts on a show and leaves your great white hope in the dust. What's better for the sport is someone that can and does come out and shines under the bright lights. Nobody cares about second place. It's about winners and the records being broken. Bol is inferior in every event, 400 hurdles, flat 400, 200 and even the 100. The only way she's gotten first is because Sydney decided to try a different event.

Bol's prior best was 12.42. She hadn't run 100 since 2017. World Athletics claims 2016 and 12.53 as her prior best but that is wrong. They are missing quite a few of Bol's races from when she was a junior.
Bol never thought she would reach this level or be compared to Sydney McLaughlin. That's why she isn't bothered at all by outside pessimism and she isn't hop scotching from event to event trying to dodge Sydney. She'll show up all year long throughout her career and rack up medals and admiration.
She sure as heck won't be forced to write a defensive book trying to explain one aspect after another.
A tranquil mind is worth a heck of a lot more than a gold medal
