I commented a few days back about Jerry wrecking Noakes. He's our best U20 runner aside from Cam Myers. The reason he's so good is because he races so often. Pretty sure he already committed to somewhere else before changing to Oregon in 2022. Not sure who was advising him but they fked up.

Evidently Shalane has a different approach from Jerry. Tonight Silan Ayyildiz ran 15:15.84, just missing Elmore's 15:15.79.

Jerry was never qualified to be the head coach at Oregon. Never. While maybe sometimes a jerk Robert Johnson was an amazing head coach. Here is some history of NCAA titles

When Oregon chooses the "right" coach they will always be in the NCAA title picture. When not they get a lot of crap as they should. This horrible hire should be laid at the feet of none other than Phil Knight. Jerry was Phil's boy and Knight stepped in and made the Oregon AD hire Jerry when the job was going to offered to someone else who would have done a great job. Nike can eat their crap now.

Everybody's more knowledgeable than me but I think the interest is because Robert Johnson built such a consistently high-performing program and now he's gone and the program is not doing as well and it's noticeable.

Phil Knight's plan was always more than shoes. That beautiful facility -- which I became familiar with for all ten days of Oregon22 -- is a reminder that Nike basically owns track and field. You have to appreciate his support of the sport. I tell myself.

No one here (except for you) is bringing up Oregon's ability to score points at a national championship. The discussion is about the gap between Oregon's undeniable history of developing top distance running talent, and the misfires of today.

This is what happens when you fire the head coach who had won the most team titles in the last 10 years and bring in a guy so far removed from the collegiate scene.

I can't believe they let go of Ben Thomas for this. Dude got Teare and Hocker to be 2 of the best guys in the world and then got fired after like 1 year. Imagine what he could've done with Birnbaum, a 3:37 HSer.

Robert Johnson wasn’t the head coach at Oregon in 2007 and 2008. Vin Lananna would like to educate you on the history of Oregon Track and Field coaches.
Before you sound off, do some basic research online. Geez, some people are just incompetent here.
Also, respect people for their accomplishments by paying them the due respect, not giving titles to other individuals.

The Oregon disaster is crazy to me. I have been running since I was 7 years old, I am 28 now. I ran 5 years of NCAA track and I follow the sport closely. I do not undertand what is going wrong at Oregon. Jerry is arguable one of the best and well known track coaches of all time in the US. Love or hate them the Bowerman brand is extremely recognizable. I wonder if he is spread too thin trying to run a program and coach college kids. Jerry is not a bad coach by any means so its weird to me that he hasnt found sucess at Oregon. Maybe this is a lesson in life that if you spread yourself too thin you are no good to anyone. In Jerrys cases hes losing both pro and college runners.

It depends whether the athlete was locked into a national letter of intent (NLI), if burlinson said he was committed and just posted about it, there is no consequence for switching schools. However, if he did sign an NLI, he has to submit a request a release, and can potentially lose a year of eligibility in the NCAA. Crazy to think losing a year of eligibility was worth getting out of Eugene if that was the case.
