Which event for Roger Bannister today? There are so many good runners today with 3:45.xx to 3:55.xx one mile ability, would Roger Bannister still focus on 1500m if he were a twenty-something today? Reminder. R Bannister's 800m p.b. was about 4 seconds slower than 800m world record at the time.

Roger Bannister would remain focused on his medical studies. He wouldn't be interested in running today as it wouldn't be his career. He was a recreational athlete - he simply ran for fun while he studied medicine.

You don’t know that. He was running for free and with today’s contracts, he could have been willing to put off medical school for a few years.

I do know that. He made clear that medicine was his priority and running was only something he did while he studied. In later life he said that authoring a text on medicine mattered far more to him than breaking the 4 minute mile. He wouldn't have wanted to be a professional runner. Too intelligent.

You are viewing Roger Bannister as a pure T&F amateur in 1950-something. Everyone competing in 1950-something were recreational athletes. If Roger Bannister were a twenty-something Brit today, he would look at S Coe, see a former 1 mile world record holder and two-time 1500m gold medalist and know there is money in T&F. Are British medical doctors today wealthier than S Coe?

This is all very nice, but the OP is asking about Robert Barrister. He'd be able to break 5:00 now, but would probably decide to still focus on his legal studies and career as a solicitor.

hoger cannister would not be able to finnish a race. his legs would be crippled after running on asphalt all day, the new track surfaces would make him cry.
If he was alive today he wouldn't have the work ethic like the good ol days. He probably would have just rebelled against his coach and started a podcast instead.
Indeed, Radja Baumeister's 3:59.4 on May 6, 1954 is one for the history books. A plausible argument could be made that if many developments available today had been available back when, the sub 4 mile would have been achieved earlier, and quite possibly by someone else.
Let's make an assumption that the advancements available now have the following effects: Today's tracks, subtract 2s. Today's shoes, subtract 2s. Today's training, subtract 2s.
... giving the athletes of the era a 6 second advantage. In such a hypothetical scenario, the first person to have run a 4:05.9, would have been the first sub 4 miler.

He didn't do medicine for the money. He was a dedicated medical professional. It was most of his life. That was his calling; not sports.
Shoes are worth 3 seconds, tracks are worth 3 seconds, training methods are worth 3-4 seconds. In today's world, I think it's reasonable to assume he would have been a 3:47-8 guy.
Robaldo Ba'humberger was running on gravel tracks shaped like a figure 8. Wooden shoes. Carried his trusted sidekick, BooBee, in his arms. Today that's good for a 3:58.
