As a normal person, I'm glad Sydney has found peace/purpose in her life through religion.
As a track fan however, I wish she was as passionate about running given how talented she is. While it is disappointing that she doesn't race a lot and seems generally disinterested, I think it's healthier to direct our energy towards supporting Femke Bol, who clearly loves competition and running.
I would love to see Femke win in Paris and even better, in LA 2028. Maybe the mainstream media would be unhappy to see their star lose, but it's fair to say it would great for real track fans to see the athlete that competes indoors, at local meets, at almost every diamond league and both relays to win olympic gold.
"Did you guys know that both Sydney and Athing went to the Mt SAC Relays last year but didn't run? They hung out for a while, took some photos with fans, then went home."
Yes! My daughter's high school went to Mt SAC, and she met both of them and Michael Norman. She was excited meeting all of them, but it would also be nice to see them compete in person (I do think Norman did the 100).
No you don't have to be crazy to be that good. She happens to be extremely talented AND crazy. Perhaps the anxiety and appetite for control and perfection has helped her work harder, but the other side of that is total misery and destroyed morale. We typically think of super athletes as highly confident individuals but rest assured that is not always the case. Based on her interviews and demeanor, she is probably insufferable and never content with her performance.. that level of anxiety and fear does not remain bottled up and everyone around the person suffers big time. The person becomes a black hole and everything around them starts to collapse into it.

You got carried away with your analysis. Sydney is actually only anxious on race days. The rest of the time she is very easy going and jokes around a lot.
I mean she is obviously one of the greatest talents the sport has ever seen. Just an incredible athlete. But two things can be true at once and while this is definitely the case, she is also a complete and utter nutcase. Some might say you have to be in order to be that good - maybe, but at the end of the day it's just sport and one day it will end. She is crazy.
Sydney an Athing don’t realize it now , but Bobby has control issues and it’s a shame for those two women
Absolutely, I said this yrs ago but my post was deleted.

Yes. I agree. I hate she never races but I remember what I saw. She's amazing. Only so many pro athletes in any sport are truly unrivaled. She was indeed.
