If Girma were in his WR shape I'd have him as the slight favorite but as it stands right now it'd be really close between Nuguse and Kerr in both a fast and slow race, I don't think Girma can outkick those two
You have short memory when Girma out-kicked Kerr last year in Selestia (Poland) with 3min 29: 51 in a 1500m?
He don't seems in the same shape this year as the last year. But none know, sound like the Ethiopian are more focused this year on the Olympics (where is Aregawi?) to not repeat the errors of the previous years.
That would make more sense. How are these conversions worked out?
I like the World Athletics scoring calculator, which has 8:00.67 = 7:26.18. Sometimes people use 1.08 (the standard conversion for 1500 to mile) to convert 3k/2-mile, which would be 7:25.06, but I don’t think the conversion holds up the same at double the distance.
I would probably give Kerr the slightest of margins in setting a betting line but Yared will have a shot at his first global gold certainly. I don't think anyone is dropping Nuguse in this one, but it will come down to the kick. Not sleeping on Girma either.

That 1500 in Silesia wasn’t as much of a “kick” though as it was maintaining speed in the last 100m. Both were pretty much flat out knackered and there was no gear shifting. I can’t remember seeing Girma ever blast a fast final 200/400. In his best 3ks he’s wound it up over the last kilometer off of an already fast rabbited pace, and we know what happens when he and El Bakkali get into the last 200 of a steeple. I think it would be very hard for Girma to win this unless he shows up in low 7:20s shape and guns it from a long way out. Nuguse, Kerr and Barega are my picks for the medals, order TBD (rooting heavily for Nuguse).

Girma was indeed very impressive last year, he could run a fast 1500 without much specific preparation. However, he does not seem to be quite where he was last year and Kerr has improved, which is why things get more complicated.
