He would have been a beast. Probably a few WRs that would still be standing. It’s too bad there can’t be any comparisons made between then and now all because of supershoes and whatever the new undetectable drug is.
They even make a women's Super Shoe the Nike Zoom Kip-Kardashian.

What? He wasn't ever the best and everyone else had the same shoes he did. What makes you think those guys wouldn't have been better with super shoes?
If Bekele had supershoes in his time his WRs would be way out of reach of what anyone today could run.
it is impossible to believe that the shoes don't play a huge part in current times. it is unfair to compare current distance times to rupp unless an asterik is put on the current times. i would say salazaar was at least as good as rupp given his cross country, 10k and marathon times. shorter was better in the marathon. they don't give those medals away. i think a fairer way than to rate runners than by using times is to compare results against current runners, e.g. fisher against cheptegei, rupp against bekele.
I wish people would stop with the explanation “they were tested a lot and didn’t test positive. A lot of tests and not failing means nothing, and it never has in any sports. It is just as much a competition between the athlete versus WADA as it is athlete versus athlete. The athletes that cheat and don’t get caught just game the system better than the athletes that get caught! IMHO
Grant the Fish Man can't hold a candle to King Rupp. Tell me the last time an American medaled in the 10k? Rupp wasn't a 3 pacer time trial fanatic, he was a RACER. A true American hero. In 2013 he was tested 36 times by USADA. nearly double the next athlete. Guess what? He never failed.
Easy there tiger.
I think Grant can EASILY hold a candle to GR, most likely a blow torch! I have HUGE respect for GR and don't need to list out why.
That being said, 3:34, 7:25, 8:03, 12:46, and 26:33 could be considered a BIG CANDLE!
Thanks for the 2013 USADA drug test count, did GF recently test positive? I'm guessing he's been tested a couple times.
my what if is Ritz in Super Shoes. This is a guy whose legs were good for 20miles before getting cramps. Would slightly better cushioning got him to the finish line?
Rupp would have been unstoppable in his prime with super shoes

This makes zero sense.
Rupp had exactly the same shoes as every runner of his time, if not better (early access to prototypes).
And he was FAR from "unstoppable." He barely even won major international races. Literally three Ws in his whole looong career lol.
So why would he dominate if he'd been in his prime now rather than the 2010s??

He's a cheater whose results DO NOT COUNT.
He can still get fairy fan boys to post about "what if" though. Hahahahaha.....
I like to ponder about this frequently. Could it have been any different? You think if he did that it would've eked out another 1 percent for a guy that ran 140+ miles a week and 20+ coming from an underwater treadmill or an alter g? He did everything and anything to get to his best whether that be the alter g, living in a tent/house at altitude, bringing in some of Americas best talent to pace him in workouts(Webb, Goucher) and all of the other conglomerate of things. He was a machine and this was a highly tuned finite system where everything that could give a boost was done. If shoes would have made that more feasible he would've done it. I think he was at his best and it worked for a time. He could've been in the realm of 26:30's but that day came and went. He used a modified shoe for the 2016 Olympic games in both events. He wore/trained in the leading up months in a trainer with a spike plate in the bottom (splat so to speak) or if were being truthful probably some very early version of the dragonfly so that he would be ready for the marathon and the shoes that would be required to be worn. Maybe he would run what fisher ran in the realm of 26:33 but his other prs are kind of hit or miss maybe the mile could've been high 3:4x.xx but that's generous. He could've very well benefited at 5k a lot from them and maybe run closer to 12:50. But his sweet spot was the 10k at the end of the day. It was a lot of overlap for his career. He was never meant to be the guy to win. Very similar to how Ritz career just unfortunately overlapped with Rupp's. The same way that Rupp's career overlapped everyone that would later beat him to a medal or just thrash him in races. A lot of people would more or less need to not have the shoes or race for this to even be realistic. Also the shoes essentially ended Galen and it only took about 5-6 years to see the effects they would have on him.
I think people are giving too much credit to shoes. If they are so great why do we only have one American currently under 2:08 and not even close to sniffing the AR set in the early 2000s? I would say doping has a much bigger effect on performance.
super shoes doesnt exist. It is a MITH. If you look in the 80's the world had way faster marathoners, specially in the USA. look for the results boston marathon 1983 for example. the few guys we have running sub 2'04 are called super dope. Not super shoes. Remember Bill Rodgers ran 2'09 in Boston 50 years ago, wearing a heavy shoe & T shirt & stopped 3x to tie his shoes. Running needs to go back to the basics.
Can someone explain to me how a runner who was not unstoppable on a level playing field nor when he got super shoes before just about anyone else would’ve somehow been unstoppable if everyone had super shoes?
