The kid, Cameron Myers, was just behind Wightman in a race this past week.
3:52 for a 17 year old is wild. If he was American, this would be lighting up the boards!!
I’m aware that this will sound like a stretch, but I think Myers could have beaten Jakob’s age group record of 3:52.28 had Cameron not run into the back of McSweyn the last 60 meters. If you watch, McSweyn moves slightly wide to hold off Wightman leaves a big enough gap with 100 meters to go that Myers could pass through. But McSweyn must've realized it as he moves back in towards the rail slowly just as Myers tries going for a pass on the inside, but ultimately clips Stewy and loses momentum the last 30 meters. It’s only February though, so hopefully Cameron will have another crack at bettering 3:52.28. I’m super excited to see what these guys can do later this year with Wightman slowly rounding into form and McSweyn seemingly getting closer to his 2021 form.
