It's not too much of a stretch to think that Kiptum would be the subject of a financial shakedown by a group that considered him an easy target. Handlers and security are important for wealthy people regardless of nationality. He was young and possibly too exposed to the public.
That said, driving in Kenya can be unnecessarily more dangerous than it should be. The driving laws would seem almost non-existent to a Westerner.

Yes Kelvin could have underestimated the caution needed to negotiate that blindspot with a truck coming and veered into a ditch but it definitely was not an intentional murder by the truck driver on Kelvin!! I'm do not back conspiracy theories that Kelvin was the target of some murderer out to get his life based on my subjective RF-honed prescience, and, based on best available 'objective' evidence or facts!
As to why the truck was not at the accident scene?? Well Kelvin may have avoided it and veered into the ditch so the truck got away unscathed and drove off without stopping to assist the victims. There was btw no evidence of any truck at the accident scene so what you have suggested could still occur based on an imaginary possibility.

Although I have read way too many doping threads on Letsrun, I confess that I hadn't heard and didn't even think of the role of the cartels/organized crime in the running teams until Insaw the tiktok video linked above. Maybe some of the young athletes are even forced to take illegal performance enhancing drugs. But, I am still waiting to see reporting on what the young woman had to say and what her relationship was to Kitpum and his coach.

The best part of it, I am pretty darn sure he wasn’t paid yet for Chicago! Major marathons don’t pay you right away now, which is a good thing actually! His record was only ratified last week!
