Seriously? 12:57 is a very long way from 12:45. Moreover, a race for place, not time, is a kicker’s race. Nico has improved his kick tremendously, but even Woody still has a better kick.
Boing boing track adjusted he ran 13.05. Bet the guys who can run 12.40 are bricking themselves
If folks would like a detailed read of what boing boing is referring to it is here. Basically the claim is that a scientifically well designed plywood indoor track can return more energy to the distance runner. Not sure it is worth 8 seconds though, if it is, yikes to all the other top Americans who just got their marks translated to the 13:10 - 13:30 range (kinkaid, Nuguse, Klecker, Beamish, etc).
45 years ago, a young lad hailing from a southern suburb of Dublin ripped around the interior of Madison Square Garden 11 times. By doing so faster than six other gentlemen making the same prestigious rounds, he was crowned c...
Bump this thread when he takes gold in Paris in the 5000. Also a huge thanks to the Norwegians for teaching us how to train to compete with the east Africans and another huge thanks to the WADA for evening the field on the track.
He did not even win the race tonight.
When is the last time he won a race period? That said, incredible run.

I wouldn’t rule out Nico winning a medal, but if he does it, it’ll be in his home state of California, in 2028. He’s currently the youngest person under 13, so looking 4 years out, it’s plausible. But 12:57 at BU does not put you in the true top tier of men’s 5k runners.

Way back in 1996 there was an American named Bob Kennedy who was then the only non-african in the world with a sub-13 PR. He made the US 5000m team for Atlanta, made the Olympic final and even took the lead with a couple laps to go. And then what happened you ask? He was left in the dust by the field and finished in 6th place. Great and exiting moment for US running in that era but nowhere near an Olympic gold. Sub-13 is a great result for Niko but now it's been another 28 years of improvement in the sport and cracking 13 is nowhere near a threat to be best in the world.

He’ll probably wreck Kelvin Kiptum’s 2:00:35 WR after he takes down Cheptigie’s 26:11 WR … OMG OMG ..! Bump this thread when he posts WRs … OMG OMG !!
