Oh my god, people here are so stupid. Salazar's drug-related ban is up, but he has a lifelong ban from SafeSport that prevents him from coaching in the US. No reputable athlete who cares about what USATF thinks of them or remaining on the legal side of the rules is being coached by Alberto Salazar.
Salazar could work for Fisher, once Fisher has switched allegiances to Canada.
Per a friend who saw him at the Utah Olympic Oval earlier today
Since Grant announced his departure back in October, we've heard nothing from him as, apparently, he has not been interviewed or has declined interviews for the time being.
So, happy to learn anything new . . . and this post corroborates others from a couple months back placing him in Utah (rather than Flagstaff or Portland as some had speculated).
However, seeing him in Park City does not necessarily mean he's living there. May be living in SLC area and just renting a place in PC for a few weeks of high altitude work.
Morgan & the Bois @ Coffee Club/OAC mentioned in one of their podcasts a couple months back they know Grant's situation and who is coaching/advising him . . . but would only state further they wondered if he needed to get Nike's approval for this arrangement . . . implying his coach/advisor is not with Nike.
First racing opportunity would likely be the US XC Champs on January 20th . . . however, Grant didn't race a 10k last year . . . so he not only does not have the 27:00 Oly Q standard . . . he also does not have a 10k Road to Paris ranking . . . thus, Grant may need to focus just on the track . . . with Sound Running's The TEN in March possibly being the focus for his winter racing schedule . . .
Regardless, expecting all this to be clarified sometime this month in an interview with T&F News, Citius Mag or a Jonathon Gault exclusive . . .
Home base = Park City. Makes a lot of sense if you have ever been to PC and SLC area. It’s has all the set-ups for an endurance sport athlete. Best place for a distance runner in the USA April through November - if you can afford it.
Fisher has the ability now to train in multiple locations that suit his training phases, weather conditions, and racing locations. Wouldn’t you do that if you could?
grant fisher, keep doing the right thing.train hard, your an american rising track star
rick wolhuter, who still holds american 1,000 meter record and 880yd outdoor world record

I’ll add to your post: Train hard and smart, with no distractions.
He trains with people on some of his runs. But there isn’t too many runners in the world who can hang with Fisher. It has been noted he is training with Centro in PC. Probably on his shorter stuff.
Having coaching and advice and setting his own schedule would be smart. Grant Fisher is a smart guy.
I find it funny that there is so much interest in where Grant lives and trains. As long as he maintains his motivation, I'm sure there will be an indoor race in the near future where he will test his fitness. Then, everyone can rest easy knowing Grant is just fine.
The Utah Olympic Oval is an indoor speed skating oval located 14 miles (23 km) southwest of Salt Lake City, in Kearns, Utah. The Oval was built for the 2002 Winter Olympics and it hosted the long track speed skating events for the 2002 games.[1] Inside the facility the 400 meter skating track surrounds two international sized ice sheets, and is itself surrounded by a 442-meter running track. Due to its high altitude, 4,675 feet (1,425 m), and the associated low air resistance, ten Olympic records and nine world records were set at the Oval during the 2002 games . . .

What part about the safesport ban would prevent Alberto from coaching Grant Fisher? By my understanding, the safesport ban would prohibit Alberto from being at competitions, but would not prevent him from coaching an athlete. There are no regulations, as far as I know, on who can or can't be an athlete's coach.

the wonders of a decentralized sport
Is being at meets not a pretty important aspect of coaching? You're right that he could technically create training plans for athletes in the US, but any farther involvement than that will run afoul of USOPC and SafeSport rules.

Mondo track. The start points are marked for all standard distances up to 5000m. Rarely crowded. Cool temps (65 degrees). Reasonably priced season pass. Great facility.

Coupled with the Olympic training center in PC, availability of tracks, miles of trails, clean air, major airport. April through November there is no better place in North America to train at altitude. For the other months train at Flag or warm weather camps.

Sure, it probably is pretty important. But I wouldn't say it makes the job impossible for someone like Alberto. Especially if he is coaching a well-seasoned athlete who can handle competitions and execute plans on their own. Gjert was able to get Nordas to world bronze this year while being refused a coach's credential.
All I'm saying is, if someone really wanted Alberto to coach them, and Alberto really wanted to coach somebody, it would technically still be possible...
