Has anyone ever pulled such a double in the same meet at the NCAA level? 7:37/13:22 is pretty impressive in the same meet.
That’s an impressive double. Great to see that closing speed.
One similar same day NCAA double that I can remember is Henry Rono’s 1978 outdoor meet. He ran a 13:21 in the 5000 heats (sprinting the straights and easing up on the curves) and came back a couple of hours later to run 8:18 in the Steeple heats. Just another day in an amazing season for Henry.

Kinda wonder what Nico young could do in the steeple, he’s pretty tall, wonder if he’d be good at it
Yeah, you’re right. His official times of 7:37.73 and 13:22.96 are almost 7:38 and 13:23, so not nearly as impressive. 🤡
And that's like, almost 10 minutes and 15 minutes. (Does anyone say "I was waiting for the bus for 13 minutes and 23 seconds"? No. You'd say you were waiting for the bus fro about 15 minutes).

Dude's not much faster than me.
Nico took the bus to the airport, flew back to Flagstaff and is working the closing shift at Applebee's.

I can see him being good at it, but after today I’m eager to see him run a 10,000 in the spring.
Call me crazy but I kinda think Nico’s better at 3k/5k than 10k. Not by a huge margin, but Nico ran 3:37 at 19 and got dropped at ncaa xc this year, he’s got underrated leg speed relative to his endurance

Rupp 2.0, Nico will show his speed this track this season just like how Rupp found a kick out of nowhere

He got dropped but the top 3 are outstanding…27:20 guy, 13:03 guy and Ky Robinson (13:06). I think the poster comparing to Rupp is pretty solid, versatile and will be good all around. Best event 10,000 on the track to me though. 10,000s are rarely all out the whole way, you get to use your speed at the end.

interesting to note that Rupp and Nico are currently sharing a coach. wonder if there might be some influence there.
could Rupp be sharing wisdom from the GOAT coach with Mike Smith?
Man. Great run by Nico, but he has become alarmingly small. Gums receding, eyes sunken in... Hope someone is checking in on him. He's too good of a talent to burn out and get hurt- it's coming
