Pretty much every one in the top 15 is entered in the 5K. Who will be in the elite race? Who wins? and will they break the NCAA indoor record?
Blanks, Bosley, Nico Young, Ky Robinson, Samuel, Maier, Wolfe, Kipngetich, P Kiprop, V Kiprop, Fink, Gilman, Messaoudi. Who else will be included in the elite race?
People are finally racing hard indoors. For a long time the top guys didn't really run much indoors, they might run a couple mile/3k races and maybe just do enough to qualify for the 5k but not really get after it. As recent as 20 years ago you were qualifying for nationals with barely sub 14. Even several years ago guys like Ches would just run enough to qualify with a roughly 13:40 and not work too hard indoors. It's nice to see so many guys getting after it in December. They can still take a few down weeks here after the race before building things back up in January/February.
This meet has been around for at least 10 years. Sarah Disanza set the u20 5k record here in 2014 running for Wisconsin. It's always been about using xc fitness/peak to knock out an indoor qualifier BEFORE taking the post xc break.
It just keeps getting more popular each year as a larger and larger percentage of the indoor qualifiers happen HERE.
Incorrect. No men even broke 14 until many years after its inception. Schweizer was the 1st elite woman to race and then it started building. Coaches questioned her decision while their athletes were on a break.

That's because runners didn't want to invest so much time and effort to run slower indoors 20 years ago. Then came indoor super tracks. Now you can run as fast indoors, and not have to worry if race day is going to be raining, windy or hot and humid. Now it is as good or better investment to train for fast time indoors.

Did indoor times qualify for outdoor championships (national meets, Worlds, Olympics) 20 years ago like they do now?

There is still valid reason to question the decision. If an athlete should have no trouble qualifying later in the indoor season, then it is perfectly reasonable to give them a needed break after the cross country season.
Maybe some coaches are concerned that athletes will get too far out of shape with an extended break.
