The women ran 1000 meters further than in high school and a great majority came in and collapsed. The men ran twice as far as in high school, and I didn't see anyone collapse.

Massive difference between racing a 6k vs a 10k on 2-3 runs per week. Highly doubt she would still win if the women's race was longer. IMO both should run an 8k but the women's coaches seem to prefer the 6k because it helps with recruiting.
I like the 6k for women, because it enables mid-distance gals like Ramsden to break into the top 10.
I agree that it's a better distance for the mid-D crew to contribute to XC, but I think they could still contribute at the 8k distance. That extra mile and a quarter of the 10k drags for quite awhile.

They're not being dramatic, if that's what you're insinuating. It's physical. I think it has something to do with lower blood pressure on avg or something. idk. There's been threads on this before. And men do collapse as well.
The next time you see scores of women collapsing at the end of a race, you might want to think twice before assuming this means they are less tough than men.
Eh it's not rocket science, we already know how to calculate any performance
Assuming she can just break 15 in the 5000m in dragonflys, etc. that means she is a vdot 70 which is very rare and very impressive for any woman
Which translates to a 24:30 8K or a 31:00 10K
But there's one huge problem of course, she doesn't train the miles needed to sustain those paces past 18 minutes, certainly no way in heck past 20 minutes, right now
I mean it's a 2:23 marathon and a 1:08 half equivalent but no way in heck she is doing any of those any year soon and doesn't need to leave the track anyway
That may change someday when she get the training vs racing vs injury figured out
Here's hoping she has a long and healthy career, I cannot wait to see what she can do.
Except for guys who might be sick or injured (or disaffected), you could probably count the number of those men on your thumbs.
Some people simply have no idea how much better good male runners are than elite females are. Not that I would necessarily consider any U.S. college women in the distance races "elite," but then I'm not sure I would do that for the college men, either.

Past 20 minutes? Like a minute longer than her winning runs at Nuttycombe and Nationals? I don’t think that makes sense from a physiological standpoint. She does long runs and tons of 80+ minute cross training workouts. Surely she could adjust her pace marginally and run a great 8k, and even a good 10k on the track. Once you get up to the half marathon, yeah, it’s a different story.
