I don't mean to start a whole thread cracking on Infeld, I was just curious to get others' opinions. I saw her IG post the other day about competing at the PANAM Games 5000m.
I am fully aware that this is not the highest level of competition, but in her post she says "Fall is base building season so figured I might as well throw in a track 5K".
The thing that rubs me the wrong way about this is 1) it's clearly sandbagging for any poor result so she can say "oh well I wasn't fully fit", but also 2) it feels very disrespectful to representing your country if you go into an international event, unfit, sandbagging and clearly not prioritising the event, thus taking the opportunity away from someone else who might take it more seriously.
There are US women qualifying for OLY Marathons and willing to pay for themselves to get there and USATF aren't sending them, and now when USATF selects a team for a games, one of the athletes throws out some message beforehand about not being ready and just mixing it into base building? Really disappointed tbh.
[Result - she came 4th in 16:09 and in her post-race IG post offered 4x excuses]
