Vin Lananna very angry

OK, let me get this straight. The guy who has lied, cheated and done all kinds of bad things for decades, has been able to consistently get great jobs, just got a contract extension and his teams are doing quite well.

The guy who appears to be behind this smear campaign, is the greatest coach out there, didn't do anything wrong, but was fired after less than a year and can't seem to find another job.

Is my summary accurate?

How did Lananna get Brosnan fired? Sorry if I wasn't always paying attention.

Then that was him getting thrown under the bus, cause Oregon itself was all-in on that debacle. Board of trustees unanimous. Soon-to-be-disgraced governor on board, disgraceful next governor on board, fine citizens of Oregon and visitors taxed for years on end. Send them all to the east coast, or Portland at least.

The story from the Brosnan fan club goes; apparently Lananna wasn't happy about Brosnan's poaching of his athlete, so he complained. Now, Brosnan did absolutely nothing wrong and there were no other issues at all with Brosnan as a coach, but the complaint from some other school that was proven to be false was enough for the UCLA administration to fire the coach they hired just a year before.

Makes sense, right?

Brosnan got himself fired.

Vin has been fired for cheating in the NCAA and USATF and he protects his negativity on others now. The ACC’ coaches can’t stand him.

Specifically what ACC coaches? I know several that hold him in high esteem.

Also, I might add, anyone with a memory beyond 15 years ago knows what he did as far as helping to resurrect U.S. distance running with those meets he put together at Stanford and put together the Farm Team.

His Stanford teams were tremendously exciting and I'm glad I got to compete against them. Stember and Jennings both running 3:35 and making the Olympics in 2000 was something else. Also, what was their low NCAA XC score? Like 25 or something?

p.s. If you have a personal axe to grind I think it's worth noting it in your commentary. Not that I think badmouthing someone on a message board is productive anyway.

The axe is the one Vin throws at everyone else and he’s disliked by the majority of coaches because of that. Play in this game long enough and you’ll know what I’m talking about.

Vin has been this way for a long time. He’s a 70 year old man with no respect for anyone but his own ego. He’s at the end of his career as a coach. It will soon be over.

Now we can move on from this pup and focus on better coaches

Yes he did. Those Stanford distance nights were amazing. USAs in Palo Alto was fun too.

That said, I think the 25 was under Andy Gerard with Vin’s athletes. Though it is worth noting that he did help several of them improve greatly (esp Ryan Hall).

I don’t think Vin Lananna being angry is a correct interpretation. I would say more Narcissistic. It’s the reason Lananna doesn’t have actual coaching friends. He’s a shrewd business man. Only out for himself

Not sure about Vin getting government assistance until he retires.

VL has a long history of screwing people over and not being exactly truthful. Things changed after he got asked to move on from Stanford. He messed with money and scholarships. He was a good coach but he’s now way past his prime. He’s in his 70’s for GS.
