Do you really think that Panorama Farms is a fast course?
Also, about your list in the previous post - if Amaris Tyynismaa is back & healthy, she would have to be a consideration.
I think it runs a lot faster than OSU, maybe Wisconsin. Last year the top 7 at ACC ran 23 seconds faster at the conference meet than they did at Nationals on average. Tuohy was 19 seconds faster and looked much more spent at Nationals than at conference. Tuohy just ran about 15 seconds slower at conference meet this year than last year, Chmiel was about 16 seconds slower.
so it seems to me it is a fast coourse which does seem at odds with the terrain.
That’s a bit surprising. The ACC race in Tallahassee was a groomed golf course. Maybe it was the heat? This year’s Heat Index was probably >75degF. (71deg/96%R.H.) Last year was 56deg/60%R.H.

maybe...but Tuohy also broke the course record in FL

So was the golf course short?
A 75deg (H.I.) temperature conversion gives an 18:54, vs the 19:23 she ran this year.
A 70deg (H.I.) temperature conversion at Valby’s race gives an 18:19, vs the 18:38 she ran this year. Nobody has said Valby can’t run in heat and humidity! 😆
An 18:19 6k on that course, (in cool conditions) has a 15:04 equivalent 5k on the same course in similar conditions!!
The course is odd. The issue is the footing. It seems sandy and there are divots. Tuohy had to watch her footing a couple of times. Tuohy broke Orton's course record, but it does not seem like a super fast course. Then you add how the race was run and the heat/humidity.

Do you think Valby is 50 seconds faster than Tuohy or something?

Not sure where you are getting 50 seconds; 18:54 vs 18:19 is 35 seconds. But if we give Valby no heat adjustment, 18:54 vs 18:38 is 16 seconds.

Ok I misread.
Nonetheless a margin like that would indicate to me that Tuohy is not in sub 15/ 15 flat shape at the moment.
Well, KT may quite likely not currently be in the top track fitness she displayed last spring, but neither was she at Natty’s last year.
Wasn’t the chief reason people suspected she might be in 15min shape at Natty’s last year (and they consequently wanted to see what she could run at BU) because she had just beat Valby, and Valby’s earlier cross-country times last fall indicated she very well could have been around 15min shape?
But Valby didn’t display the 15.0 min fitness at Natty’s because:
(1) she may have peaked too soon last fall;
(2) she didn’t recover properly for Natty’s, by running too hard at Regional’s the week before;
(3) she ran a longer race from inefficiently running the tangents.
Not sure the point of comparing the times of one runner who clearly ran hard the whole race and one who did not but rather accelerated in last k
The first objective of that point was NOT a comparison of one runner to another, but it was further investigation into what Temperature Adjustment means.
It was after doing that for Tuohy, I said to myself, “so what does this mean for Valby?”
If it is any consolation to you guys, I don’t think sub-15min 5k shape on an outdoor track, for Valby, automatically translates to sub-15min 5k shape on an Indoor track. And that is not a knock on Valby. I just don’t think her biomechanics are as suited for the tight turns of an indoor track, vs a more compact athlete like Tuohy.

For this reason, I’m not sure if running Indoor is a good idea for Valby. Because she doesn’t do as much running mileage, we would not expect her lower extremities to be as strong and acclimated. Acclimation and strengthening is key. She should be doing proper prehab plyo/strength work along with her aerobic machine work, to stave off injury.
