Brosnan just got canned from UCLA. He won’t be a pro coach next and mammoth has no jobs so any B level pros won’t be able to survive there without their parents help. Spouses can’t live there and have real jobs either. Not built up enough. Brosnan is blowing smoke, he will be selling used cars at gravel Geordie’s house of cars tomorrow
Sure thing. Every JUCO teacher earns $100K. Does Brosnan even have a degree? Nobody knows.
I know one coach/ teacher that makes $110k. I know another one makes $150k. Both successful, are tenured, and will retire with a 6-figure pension.
They make more than a lot of coaches that are at the 4 year level. You must be in high school. It’s okay, most people don’t know the hidden luxuries and where to go. They both make more than my old coach who would coach us to make NCAA nats every year.
It seems you don’t like brosnan. A lot of people don’t. But he’s worked with talent that most people will never get a chance to work with. You’ll just follow them on special media and watch them race.
All of the juco love is a bit disingenuous… yes if you are a tenured professor at the college you are making close to 100k and then a 10k or 20k stipend… but you are a teacher first (yes it is probably a bs weights class, a walking fitness class and an intro to eating healthy foods class but you are a teacher). Yes we all know tons of D1 coaches making 60k in CA but they are only coaching, many don’t want to be teachers, if they want a second job like a juco coach they can do summer camps and drive Uber and also make 100+ per year.
Definitely not hating on juco it is a sweet gig if you don’t mind teaching but it is a grind and many coaches would fcuking hate it!!!
Jealous haters’ insults only pertain to criticism directed at Brosnan. Insults and hate directed towards those that criticize Brosnan are just fighting to keep Letsrun the positive, supportive place it usually is.
bro u have no idea what you're talking about. 1.5 hr drive back down to sea level for workouts and plenty of places to run with soft surfaces + flat + hills. Why would you make such an uneducated claim about big bear ⁉️
Brosnan unlikely to coach JUCO. Even for a super successful team, he will not get much PR, and unless he has turned around his life philosophy and tempered his ambitions, JUCO is not going to get him the pub he seeks. He's better off at a bad D1 program, trying to turn it around.
Big Bear (7,000’ +), year round, pro caliber facility training camp/team
Except, Big Bear is a trash training location. Of all the places with altitude and the ability to drop down for workouts, Big Bear is objectively probably the worst option.
-Big Bear is a MUCH smaller cost in terms of real estate compared to Mammoth. I haven't look lately, but it's probably around a 1/3 as much.
-You can take the highway 18 down the backside of the mountain to the high desert to run where there are plenty of dirt roads/trails to run so you obviously do not know the area. Brosnan's wife ran for Hesperia HS so she obviously knows the place. That altitude would be lower than Mammoth where their groups drops down to Bishop to run and that's a tad over 4K. There's also Costco and everything else needed in the high desert and you can be in Hesperia in an hour. In Mammoth it takes a full day to Carson/Reno as you are looking at 3+ hours these days each way.
-If you want a little drive you could jump over the highway 15 to run the San Gabriel mountains as well out of Wrightwood and grab a few beers at the Yodler.
I've lived in Wrightwood and Mammoth and in all honestly...I like the mountain biking and running in Big Bear much more. If I recall NORBA (mountain bike race association) used to favor Big Bear over Mammoth as well and held their national championships there, but that's been awhile. Don't get me wrong both are great for other things, but getting a longer, flatter or sustaining small gradual hill is more difficult to find in Mammoth (and yes people I'm aware of Shady Rest Park in Mammoth). It's more steep up and downs. In Big Bear they are everywhere across that plateau.
Can someone explain the Brosnan hate? As someone who knows very little about the man, other than he seems like a way above average high school (my high school coach was an cigar smoking assistant football coach with a huge beer belly that was forced to coach track every Spring against his will and hated it), I'm genuinely curious to hear actual reasons why so many people absolutely loathe the dude????
He also flamed out at a big college so he became an assistant for a few years, got a head coaching gig at a small college and proved himself a savvy coach who could recruit, then parlayed that success into a head coaching job at an SEC school.

Jealous people who want to think their high school coach was better, because he/she brought Caprisuns, Strawberry Uncrustables and Taylor Swift Band Aid's for blisters. They also allowed them to play Capture the Flag or Sharks and Minnows for pre-meet. One or two of them may have been stuck with a cinder track at their school site. But hey....their attitude that a 4:20 mile is still SUPER fast, because they are not even remotely close to it and it pains them deeply as they will have no chance while running 10 X 400 at :75 with 5 minutes rest....but they...they did what their coached asked.

Have you met him or spent any time with him?
Here's a small list of what people claim his issues are (not saying I agree or believe them). Please don't come on here and argue all these points fanboys. I'm just saying what people have said here on the message boards as a summary of the issues people have with him.
He's exaggerated his place in the running world. He used to falsely tell everyone he's a 9xAA at Adam's St and his PR's were better than they were in actuality.
He was accused of breaking many rules while he was coaching at NP, which he denies. I believe it was something like 15 complaints to CIF.
He constantly name drops and talks about his tight relationships with all the top coaches, which many people think is an overstatement of his interactions with these coaches.
He seems to publicly take the credit for NP's success more than deferring to the kids (see NXN trophy presentation moment as example).
People have said he is incapable of having any normal conversation that isn't focused on running.
He doesn't seem to factor in how his colleague's will react to some of his decisions, but rather does what he wants, how he wants to do it. Sounds like many of his colleagues that coached for many years in his area were put off by his lack of respect for how things worked.
He views his coaching as revolutionary and places himself among the top tier of coaches, while his training is just like most of the current coaches who are far more experienced and accomplished than him.
He is very unethical, whether it's breaking rules at UCLA, breaking rules in his high school league with practice rules, not following the guidelines during COVID, it all adds up to someone who thinks rules and guideline don't apply to him and he's always looking for an angle to live in the grey areas of rules.
He looks for every opportunity to promote himself. See his "The Rise" video series as an example.
People make fun of his hair gel usage and 2000's boy band look.
He posts on Letsrun constantly under a bunch of anonymous names, calling anyone who doesn't think he's great a jealous hater who has serious problems and needs help.
Like I said, this is a general list of some of the issues I've heard over and over on the message boards. I'm sure others could add some I've missed. Fanboys can waste their time shooting down the opinions, but this was an honest attempt to answer the question above based on previous threads.
