I see many future battle for my viewing enjoyment. Gotta bring it to the race. These women are competitors. Lets enjoy their performances. They work hard and must have lifestyle discipline to be at peak: physically, mentally and emotionally. If we support them, they can only get faster and more enjoyable to watch.
I am a Tuohy fan but I don't believe that Tuohy would just "let" herself get beat by that much, she would want to win.
To me, Valby is looking favored for the title after that race.
Lemngole, Olemomoi may be in the mix too.
Agreed.
THIS was extremely fun to watch.
MEGA Tuohy fan (if you’ve ever read my posts, it’d be obvious that I am). However, I firmly believe now that Valby SHOULD be ranked #1.
Tuohy would fight hard for a win, regardless of the situation. Which means, she fought today. Valby won. Decidedly. I’m extremely impressed by Valby.
Do I think Tuohy will not win Nationals? Uhm, no. Here’s the fun fact. Tuohy hates to lose. She always learns from the past, and she will not repeat this.
In all fairness though, as of this moment, Valby should be ranked #1.
Valby looking strong and steady on a messy course is especially positive given her injury history and (I assume) lighter running schedule + cross training. Tough to look strong compared to other runners that do many more miles and have a more fine-tuned form.
I do think Tuohy will be much closer later. She's probably aggressively training through this race, and Valby is probably more consistently closer to a "rested" condition simply due to her lower miles/cross training. Always hard to know with all the possible factors. Great rivalry.

I do think that since there was some doubt as to whether she would even run this race, in 5 weeks she will be faster. Whether Valby will also be faster I do not know.
Tuohy lost the war in outdoor and also surrendered. But she won some battles. So thanks for reminding us how poorly she has performed for the past 6 months.
Just an expression. Today. From everything I have seen she is trying to avoid overtraining to avoid wearing down. To me that suggests that she will have better form in a few weeks as her training kicks in. But you are coming in somewhat less trained, then at some point going full bore with Valby was not worth it.

I disagree on this one.
It was worth it.
Come out, “training through” this race, and see where you are at.
She sees where she is at with her 70+ mile weeks with no tapering.
Valby is better at the moment, she knows that now.
Agreed. What I mean is I do not think she came in as sharp as last year when she was trained to the hilt and peaked in indoor season. From what Henes has said, the goal is to avoid getting worn down by peaking for too long. So my guess is training through the race but is not at or near peak yet. Valby always goes from the gun and it takes a lot of effort to run her down.
From the results as of this moment I would say Valby is No. 1, Tuohy No. 2 and then the Alabama duo with Chimel in the mix. But my impression is barring injury Tuohy is going to really make it a race at nationals. We will see where she is in a couple of weeks.

We agree to agree.
Tuohy hates to lose. But, she is training for something else.
She will continue to train through this. She’s essentially #2 in the nation (collegiately), training through.
She will; however, have Henes adjust her training so that she can go onto the Virginia course (where she holds the course record), and obliterate it, and win at Nationals.
Slight adjustment.
Back-to-back-to-back wins for NC State (the most important thing to her), and back-to-back for her individually.

With the above being said; however, I believe at this moment, NAU is the favorite on the WOMEN’s side as well!

I agree with your comments and Astro’s. I would also like to add that Tuohy has had to carry the burden of being the favorite in basically all college races she has competed in for the past year. As they say, heavy is the head that wears the crown.
Valby ran a great race today and will likely become the favorite for Nationals now. This is very fair and it is also good for Tuohy because it makes Tuohy the underdog now and takes away that pressure, that burden of expectations. That now belongs to Valby. Better for Tuohy not to have that target on her back anymore.
