BS I've had tonsillitis and antibiotics take a few days to kick in. Maybe he had a slight sore throat. Zero chance that guy is not on ped's 3 years ago he could not run 10,000m at his marathon pace. He's self coached and this guy is his dealer imo
Yeah, because people cant improve in 3 years? some people just need to find their right event
1) Kiptum seems to have pulled a Parker Valby with his Chicago Marathon performance: he had suboptimal training, came back from injury, and still obliterated the competition.
I agree with you, but I also think it's hilarious that Kiptum runs an incredible negative-split world record to finally supplant Kipchoge at the top of the marathon pecking order...and what we call all of that is "pulling a Parker Valby".
Yeah, writing that gave me a good chuckle. Valby breaking course/school/conference records is sort of analogous to what Kiptum did, right? 😄

He ran a 59:53 Half Marathon almost exactly 4 years ago. Almost exactly 5 years ago, he ran a 1:02:01 at 7000ft in Eldoret. The dude's been locked into this pace for a long time.
“He wanted to withdraw from the race because one week before the competition, he had tonsillitis as well as a thigh injury. He had called the manager expressing his intention but we managed to convince him not to do so. We told him that with the right medication, he would recover in two days and indeed, in two days he was ready and raring to go,” Hakizimana said.

You don't think a guy in his twenties can improve a lot, and you call yourself a coach?

He ran 58:42 three years ago, and his Marathon pace is 1:00:17 for HM. So what are you talking about?

2) It’s sort of refreshing to see an elite pro runner downplay their preparation before a race and then exceed all expectations. We’re so used to athletes talking a big game, saying they had a fantastic training block, and then underperform. I like being pleasantly surprised rather than disappointed.
YEAH FINALLY SOMEONE SAID IT: KIPTUM IS THE PARKER VALBY OF MARATHONING. HE MUST BE SO HONORED TO BE COMPARED TO PARKER.
