I bet we won't get to see them race, either kipchoge pulls out or kiptum does a different fall race. They won't face off. Kipchoge can risk losing and Nike may accommodate that with what kiptum runs

Didn't Kiptum do the Kipchoge salute in the final 50 meters? It looked a lot like it. A petty person would take offense at being mocked.

All great pro athletes are fake humble, from the moment they go out and shake hands or touch gloves or whatever, before proceeding to destroy each other in a test of absolute dominance.

What's dishonest is going overboard with the sportsmanship. Congratulating someone else's performance in a race you didn't enter isn't required, and so should be avoided. We don't want EK to be happy about it, or to act happy if he doesn't have to. We should want him to be planning his unpaced-1:59 vengeance.

Well, where's that humility? He inspired someone else to break his world record which he probably won't get back. Why not some congrats.

Kipchoge is definitely a sore loser. I remember him in that race (Berlin?) telling that guy who was up with him (sorry forget his name) in the late stages to stick to the blue line. I'd love to see nothing more than Kiptum surge, and drop Kipchoge. The words "ET go home" come to mind.

Good call on Kipyegon. She has one of the most interesting Instagram accounts because it's quite active and positive, but none of it sources from her. I've mentioned that here and elsewhere. It's not her vocabulary or style at all. And it's hilarious when somebody makes a comment and begs her to respond to her followers, when they have no idea they aren't actually speaking to Faith.

Whoever runs that account obviously has direct connection to Kipyegon because they get all the photos very quickly, whether it's from a training session, race or appearance, and do a good job not only with full posts but also the Instagram stories. Many dummy accounts only deal with full posts and don't bother with the quicker short lived Instagram stories.

And now he posts about 1:59 Challenge again...

When he said in that one interview that Kiptum will be the SECOND person run a sub 2 hour marathon I lost all respect for Kipchoge.

LOL ultra runners only do ultras because they have to find where the competition is the weakest. if Kipchoge ran Western States he'd be a man amongst children.

You are misunderstanding what I mean by fake humble. It is not the surface level pleasantries that athletes give their fierce competitors. Fake humble refers to the persona Kipchoge and the Nike marketing team have created. He is portrayed as someone without fault, without anger, without depth. This dishonest messaging promotes ideals that conflict with the reality of running and life.

He’d be a god amongst men. He’d course record that first try and Jim would probably cry really bad. Jim would have to go the wrong way again to avoid a big defeat.
