I LOVE this. Bell has guts. My very successful uncle told my brother the key to his business succcess was simple, "Always hire very talented people. Many people are afraid to hire talented peop;le as they are afraid they will make them look bad in comparison. I'm not afraid to hire the very best and let them help me make money."
The same applies here.

Interesting take. Going back to SU? Hope it works out for him and the program.

You dont have news like this in any other country on earth. Running, specifically cross country running seems so incredibly big in the US. Sometimes xc (in the US) seems like a different sport completely separated from the rest of the running world. If Bekele, Kipchoge, Hassan, Kipyegon, Kerr etc would switch coaches it would barely register. Interesting stuff. There must be so much to gain for the rest of the sport, in addition to the US performance in xc, to somewhat makes these worlds meet.

when i first started coaching, i read somewhere that b level coaches hire c and d level assistants. a level coaches hire a level assistants. that has stuck with me for a long time, and I often think about it when i look at particular coaches and staffs.
100%
I've been saying this for over a year! People are starting to figure out that just because you ran track/xc in high school and or college, have a USTFCCCA coaching certificate, and were a volunteer coach at a D-2 college, you're now considered a "high level" coach.
Please define what an "A" level coach and "A" level assistant is? Hmmm... I'm guessing the majority are former runners who:
#1- Have actual elite "Running" experience (the more the better).
#2- Have the ability to communicate and motivate athletes at all levels.
#3- Can learn how to use a stop watch and can define what "10 x 1000m @ 5k DP w/ 2min rec" is.
An early post stated that too many "B" and "C" level Head coaches will only bring on assistant coaches with less experience than they have for fear of being out coached.

It’s legit funny that Rojo thinks the only thing wrong with this post is that he misspelled the word buy
