For an idiot, it would seem unlikely. However if you read their IG post, they decided to call it a season after their 5th ave run. Said their mind and body were ready to take a break.
Hiltz gave up up the spot, Mcgee got in on points and Johnson being next in line (Mu running 800) took the wild card. Not everything is evil.

Only after they notified they that they would not get the spot did they decided to post that they were ending their season.
This is the DL Final not an invitational meet. How many DL meets did Hiltz do? How many 1500? How did Hiltz place? Not being shunned or overlooked. Weird to think you could get invited for being the US champ especially crapping the bed in Budapest. Why would Cory run though? It seems she has had a long season that ended with a whimper at the last euro meets.

Lol. Hiltz literally said in their post race interview that she hoped she would get picked for the DL final... and that it is 'political'. Maybe they changed their mind, or not. I think Hiltz would run if offered a spot.

McGee ran 2 events for 12 points Hiltz ran 2 events for 8 points. If you look at the standings and who is running, Nikki was the next in line to snag that spot instead of Sinclaire. Nikki even mentioned in the interview that it's a Nike event, so apparently they had some knowledge of this possibility, but the notion that they just suddenly changed their mind and decided to end their season is silly. They were clearly looking forward to running and I'm sure they were given the heads up that they were not selected in advance which gave them the opportunity to bow out on their terms to save face. She was 100% bypassed; most likely and publicly because it's a Nike event and Sinclaire is a Nike athlete, but unofficially, everyone knows there are other reasons.
Sinclaire Johnson has been being smoked all summer long, she is a total non-factor in world class racing right now. In the last Diamond League in Brussels a 19 year old beat her and I'd much rather see Addison Riley in there than her.

Solely up to the meet organisers in Eugene.
Indeed which is why this wildcard stuff is a joke and hopefully soon to be axed.

They took top 12 from DL points list + Sinclair as local wild card. McGee actually 13th, but Chepchichir withdrew allowing McGee in on points.
Meet director can choose who they want for wild card, don't have to follow any ranking list.

Why ask will card? The local wild cards create more local interest and global wild cards allow big stars to compete. Makes a better meet and in the Eugene case gets like 30 extra Americans in.
