Back when athletes did not talk trash, track was 100x bigger than it is today. Everybody knew Bannister and Landy and Ryun, without any trolling.
Not that I really care about what Kerr does, but I do reject the idea that trah talking is either an inevitable or even useful part of athletics.
Hahaha, no it wasn't. Athletes made no money at all. Granted, it was bigger in the USA back in the day but everyone was poor compared to professional athletes of today. Oh, let's not forget Pre, a man quite found of trash talk and outspokenness, contributed to the running boom because of his brash personality.

Haha, they were interviewed by a dude smoking a cigar and wearing a suit for a small little write-up in a newspaper that people would read the next day. I feel they might act different if they grew up and competed in the twitter era.

It was a better era back then. People were humble and broke. It was great for the popularity of the sport. I'm sure Ryun would have frowned upon an NIL deal and spurned all views on Instagram.
Take another look at the meme. It's actually complimentary to Ingebrigsten. It shows him as an athlete with almost no vulnerabilities. Isn't the subtext therefore pretty clear?: That no one, Kerr included, is ever likely to get another arrow through that visor.

There are ten memes in the post. They are certainly not all complimentary. (Also, some of them have nothing to do with Jakob.)
Is this account controlled by Kerr? It's fine for a fan account, but if it's his, the post comes off as more masturbatory than trash-talky.
Jakob refuses to name any of his competitors, including the two who beat him at the last two Worlds. That's playground behaviour and he can't complain if it's met with similar pettiness in response.
He also spent all year talking about his competitors like they were bystanders in the Jakob Show, and he may have been right, but it's still graceless to denigrate his competitors like that. So, again, he can have no complaints if they give something back when they beat him

Jakob deserves a little heat tbh. He talks such a big game every year and then has all sorts of excuses when he doesn't win. Obviously he's a huge talent but you gotta own your losses sometimes.
