Yes it is true. Expect a Tuohy who has no extra help any longer. She will provide an excuse similar to what other runners have been providing the past 2 weeks.
no extra help? Chimel, Tynnassma, Bush - all capable of finishing Top 10. might be her deepest team of the three. I have no doubt Hennes finds a solid #5.
my only concerns aren't them, it's other teams stepping up. also, like in any sport, three-peating is difficult. they'll have a target on their back all season.
i still say they're the favorites, just gonna be tough is all.
It's hard to bet against Tuohy, but I do think Cherop/Valby/Tuohy are all in contention for #1. Tuohy will face Cherop at Joe Piane and Valby at Nuttycomb so we will know more.
I don't see Markezich or Ramsden really competing with them over 6k.
Amy Bunnage otoh could make a leap. She is almost a pro already for Au and so fast.
all of the above teams have reloaded with top recruits and/or high profile transfers. I still say NC State is the frontrunner but this will be their toughest test yet.
Prediction:
It's the 2023 NCAA XC Championships. Parker Valby, who is the top runner on a Florida team in contention for the title, runs a conservative first 3K. After all, she can't risk going out too hard and blowing up. She has her team to think about. Assuming NC State has it in the bag for a third year straight, Tuohy decides to turn on the burners from the gun, harkening back to her NXN days. She builds an 11 second lead by the halfway point. Looks like no one is going to catch her. Then out of nowhere, Valby starts reeling her in making up seconds on every curve because she is running perfect tangents. By the last 400 you can hear the Jaws music playing in the background...
Naw. Just kidding. Tuohy is not going out on a loss. I see no reason to doubt her now. I predict she repeats individually and NC State is 3X champs. They are just that much better.
I don't know but tangents on this course will mean something as there must be at least 15 turns.

Don’t expect to see Katelyn race before ACC’s
Seems like a good plan since her outdoor season extended into July for USATF.
It will be interesting to see the pack compete at Nuttycomb without her. Who is going to be their #1? Chmiel or Tyynismaa?
Tuffy tends to drop these bombs and often doesn’t have an explanation for us.
Unfortunately; as a fan and wanting to see her race throughout the season such as Nuttycombe, etc., it looks like it may not happen, Tuffy tends to be spot-on.
Plans can change. I don't remember exactly, but I seem to recall that Tuffy may have mentioned last year around this time that Chmiel also might not race until ACCs or later. And Chmiel raced at Nuttycombe. I wouldn't be surprised to see Tuohy at Nuttycombe this year.

Everyone is a critic when runner's are burned out for the usatf meet, so how would you structure Touhy's racing schedule, if she is to be fresh in July?
Starting at acc is an option. She could even do a limited indoor season by running the bu opener at either 3k or 5k and only do 1 race at NCAA indoor. (or perhaps throw in some dmrs too) then 3k/dmr double. With Touhy, Tyynismaa, Bush, Hartman, Napoleon and 400, they could be competitive this year.
If KT ran only acc thru bu opener, that's only a 5 week season, and she could use the NCAA indoor meet as the first meet after rest and another training block.
A last thought here is that Tyynismaa, Chmiel, and Bush would all probably make trials from the wait list even if they didn't hit the standard, so Henes could choose to have a 'group of 4' run a limited schedule set up for trials.
Of course also possible KT redshirts/joins pro team for both indoor/outdoor.
