I would think her openness about a stigmatized and misunderstood mental illness which many people suffer from for years in silence, largely due to feelings of shame and guilt, is the content that brings something to the world. Inspiring those with EDs to get treatment and making them feel less alone, demonstrating there's hope and joy along the path of treatment even on the tough days.

I didn't click on it but if she truly says "I'm struggling but can't tell you why yet" that is in fact for clicks and not helping anyone.

Lots of people deal with far more and don't post it on the internet to make $, that's all I'm saying.

There's lot of incentive to have more and more problems, and post more and more videos about these problems to make money.

What about videos like "how I found my success in running" and other helpful tips. You know, advice that can help people.

I think it's very hard to do 1-2hour stationary bike and elliptical workouts, and it takes a toll on you mentally. I hope she hasn't been overdoing that stuff to the point that she is near burnout. I am a big Allie fan and wish her the best.

I was at the Mayo Clinic and I happened to meet my doctor outside the eating disorder clinic near the cafeteria (!). He expressed relief that that this illness is not his speciality, as he felt it was a condition that is very hard to cure.

For many people, the disorder just doesn't melt away. Best of luck to Allie when it comes to fighting this condiition.

Riding a bike a 2 hours and chilling the rest of the day is pretty damn easy life.

There is a very stark divide on Letsrun between people who understand social media and those who don't.

Her channel has plateaued in views/new subscribers and content is getting stale. You see it time and time again.

Regardless I wish her the best, there are probably very real issues at play. Just not sure this style video is the answer.

I think the thread title deliberately misrepresents what she said in her video. She said she's under a lot of stress for reasons she can't say yet (maybe something related to being sponsored by NNormal? I recall her having to hold off on announcing the sponsorship for about a month or so until she was allowed to speak about it) and as a result of that, she's struggling with her mental health.

Eating disorders, particularly for athletes, can be really tricky because so much of the disordered eating behaviors were tied to beliefs around food and body weight's relation to performance. For an athlete that wants to succeed, you can see how this is problematic and how triggering everyday life can be, particularly with regards to eating, while you're training for competition and also trying to stick to the ED treatment protocol. Over the years an athlete suffers from an ED without treatment, they're essentially conditioning a fear response to what we consider healthy eating behaviors because they feel as if it will manifest in some negative outcome (ex. reduced performance in the case of an athlete).

I'm not as familiar with ED treatment as I am with other disorders, but each meal or snack can be akin to an exposure from the framework of how we think about exposure therapy. Anyone that knows anything about Exposure and Response Prevention (ERP) knows it's the emotional and mental equivalent to stepping into the ring with Mike Tyson and getting your a$$ walloped, especially early in treatment.

Most of these problems she's mentally dealing with would be easily fixed if she settles down, has a baby and focuses on raising kids like nature intended.

But instead she will focus on "Muh Career!" to the point where she will struggle to get pregnant from the constant physical strain and low body weight.

I mean most of her post talks about eating poorly, drinking coffee, constant traveling and sightseeing while half hazardly training.... wonder why her body is shutting down?

I have no sympathy for people who have mental issues and stay on social media. I avoid social media and only interact with people I know in real life and find anyone with a public social media presence that complains about mental health hypocrite. The number one, without exception, negative impact on mental health is social media.
