Speaking of the classic 8, Mukwonago and Arrowhead are going to struggle. Muk has 15 guys on the entire team and Arrowhead graduated everyone and track times of the next up ones were not great

It’s Mukwonago’s #5 position where, as of now, they are looking to struggle. They return: Schreiber - 11 - 16:38 Beyer - 12 - 16:55 / 4:39 mile Roberts - 11 - 17:01 / 4:54 G McGrath - 12 - 17:04 / 4:47 1600 Seems like a solid top 4 but also a big 4-5 gap right now.
For projected 5th and 6th, they have: D McGrath - 12 - 18:17 5k (is he related to G McGrath?) Davies - 11 - 18:31 5k
I think they should be able to qualify to state since their section is not that strong.
Will they be able to close the 4-5 gap?
They made a big jump from 2021 to 2022 xc though. 9th in the section in 2021 to 5th in the state in 2022.
And I agree, Arrowhead will have trouble going back to state since they lost so much of their varsity and they are in a tough section. They have Oconomowoc, Slinger, and Germantown in their section
Very unlikely. Will Wheitis could make it as individual, but I doubt their team could pull it off. They’re losing too many contributing seniors. They don’t have the guys to pick up the slack. Guess they’ll live with the fact that they can’t keep up their petty streak of making it to state.
Well if a team loses many contributing seniors, and the year after they find 5 guys that run really well, they will be fine, especially if they have a good coach
Also Middleton had so many seniors on varsity in 2019, and they finished top 2 at sections in 2020.
At sections this year, Middleton will be up against DeForest and Onalaska.
Onalaska has a strong 1-3 (Putz/Burnstad/White) but their 4&5 are their question marks. It also depends if soccer player Symons (4:42 / 10:25) chooses to do XC this year or if an impact transfer comes in Also we don’t know if Putz is doing XC this year or not So their success really depends on who does XC this year
DeForest returns: Pabon - 11 - 9:37 / 16:28 Tanner - 10 - 10:14 / 16:30 Tiedt - 11 - 17:41 / 10:43 Parker - 10 - 17:44 / 10:50 Meyers - 10 - 18:22 Meinen - 10 - 5:02 but no track results Dobbs- 10 - 5:12 but no track results Not sure if they will beat Middleton with this group, but in any case, Deforest looks very good for 2024 and 2025 as well. They are looking to have no seniors on varsity this year and lots of sophomores

7. Manny Putz Onalaska (WI) - - - Even though Putz did not compete this spring, we still can't forget about his sophomore cross country season. He started out his season with two victories before he lined up at the Roy Griak Invitational. Putz was the fourth-place finisher behind three seniors as he crossed the finish line in 15:38. The following weekend, he put on the best performance of his career by winning the Steve Johnson/Dan Huston Invitational in a personal best time of 14:50. His performance earned him a 191 speed rating for his efforts. Towards the end of the fall, Putz won his first WIAA state cross country title and was 11th at Champs Sports Midwest Regional.
Most overrated team this season is Madison West without doubt. Most of their top guys will peak in the middle of the season again - just like track 2023. They’ll run great at griak. That’s it. Only guy to watch out for is Culp. Solid runner who could have a huge breakout season. Definitely a contender for top 10 at state.
this peter negrut kid is teh x factor for west, watch out for him. he just started running last year but still sniffed varsity on a very deep squad, was very fast this spring and is putting in some great mileage this summer. go pete go!
I also heard he dunked on 5'3" guy (not manny putz)
