I don't think Faith KIPYEGON or Gudaf Tsegay or even Laura Muir are shaking in their boots or running shoes, but I am a bit surprised that she made the team and I feel kind of bad for Sinclaire Johnson, i love her moxie and confidence.
My guess is Athing Mu will not contest the 1500 where she has no chance of beating the Africans and that will open the door for Sinclaire to go to the World Championships.
Athing Mu already said in an interview after the race that she is sticking with the 800.
Their coach Bob Kersee said setbacks that will keep them out of next week’s Los Angeles Grand Prix will not prevent them from challenging two of track’s oldest world records.
“I think the goal is she needs to be under 3:59 or better to really get the benefit out of the 1,500 and with her speed ability to get the ultimate transfer to the 800 in order to break that other 30-year-old (plus) record at 800 meters,”Kersee said.
“I just think when she has that, that anaerobic threshold and being able to hold over that and take the 800 out at a decent speed, that’s going to allow her to go under 1:53.”
“The 800/1500 or 400/800 has been done and I think Athing has that ability and I think if the schedule allows it, it would be nice to see for a woman to double the 8 and 15 at a very high level with the potential to gold medal in both,” Kersee said.
So I think the first bit is right, getting her to 3:59 shape to challenge the WR is a good idea.
The last bit about medalling in both is a bit of hyperbole as long as Faith Kipyegon exists, in my opinion.
Or Athing Mu could be another Sebastian Coe a world beater at 800 and tries his first serious mile/1500 and destroys the best in the world ; but I kind of doubt that, LMAO :) :) :)
From the pre race interviews it seemed that the other established milers assumed that Coe,who had walloped the 800 metres WR by over a second on this same tr...
Faith a 3:49 1500m runner has nothing to worry about and neither do a host of Ethiopian runners including the 17 year old who ran a 4:16 mile or probably even Laura Muir.

Remember Mu hasn't altered her training from her usual 800m stuff so far, so more improvements are most certainly coming. However, 3:49 is a whole different ballpark than 4:03.
The only way I see My winning the Olympic 1500m right now is if Kipyegon pulls a Genzebe Dibaba and vanishes off the face of the earth or only runs the 5000. However, last week we were all like "no way Mu does well" and 4:10 and 4:03 later look how dumb we looked. Mu is a generational talent and anything is possible for her.
Very frustrating race to watch from a strategy point of view…
Imagine if Mu had actually run most of the race in the inside of lane 1 and didn’t “block” others by running on the outside line of lane1…she would have been much faster…during most of the race, it appeared that she was holding back which made it difficult for most to try and pass her…they kept getting caught up in a tight group…Cory never gave in and kept herself in the race by staying tight on the rail and Sinclaire and Nikki just waited and went wide into lane 2…
No worries though…the team will be Hiltz, McGee, and Johnson…Mu in the 800m
Strangely your comment got downvoted. Yet we all know Kersee coached more drug cheats than Salazar and Schumacher combined. Some people here are allergic to the truth.

So the 4:37 miler who didn't even finish at Millrose last year has effectively carved 14 seconds off the equivalent of that time with this latest 1500 run. That easy. And that ridiculous. It is a mere formality then that she takes another 14 seconds off by next year. Bobby has obviously worked out how to do it.
